Former Shocker standout Rafael Becker carded 3 eagles over his last 8 holes to shoot a 7-under par 62 (not too many courses that are par 69 layouts) to claim a three-stroke victory in Rio de Janeiro. By winning his National Open Championship just 15 months into his career as a professional, Becker also became the first Brazilian player to win on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.
Becker finished the week at 14-under 262 to set a new 72-hole record at the historic Gavea Golf and Country Club. The old record had stood since 1982, when World Golf Hall of Fame member Hale Irwin shot 11-under to win this same event.
This was Rafael's 2nd career victory as a pro.
Who knows maybe we will see Rafael in the American PGA tour one of these days.
Congratulations Rafael.
