As with their Lady Shocker counterparts the Shocker men played a solid 1st round but pretty much came apart at the seams in Round 2.

A second round 312 (+32) has them sitting in 12th place 24 shots our of the last qualifying 5th place spot.

Scores today were inflated across the board:

LCB +6, Chandler Rusk +8, Grant Bennett +8, Max Mason +10 and Alec Heinen +12. Not to pick on Alec but he has the worst individual score in the tournament after 2 rounds (although one Northern Colorado player still has 3 holes to play and sits 3 strokes ahead of Alec).

Basically, the Shocks are playing to their seeding of #12 which is probably not surprising considering that seeding probably assumed Calvin Pearson would be in our lineup. I have no idea why Calvin is not playing this weekend but his replacement, Max Mason is freshman who had 3 competitive rounds of collegiate golf under his belt coming into the tournament.

Max struggled today starting out 9-over on his first nine holes (the back 9) but he easily had the best closing 9 (the front 9) with a +1 effort. Unfortunately, it was way too little, way too late to really do much for the Shocks.

Shocks close out the tournament with a +24 (304) to finish in 12th place where they were seeded.

Sr. Chandler Rusk certainly didn't throw in the towel even though their wasn't much to play for. He shot a 2-under 68 today. At least a positive punctuation mark to his Shocker career.

OTOH, LCB's round go away from him as he was 10-over on the day.

Alex Heinen had a really tough tournament but after a 7-over outgoing nine he came back on the incoming 9 to shoot 2-over and avoid the ignominy of finsishing dead last individually (he finished next to last).

Freshman Max Mason, who was probably in over his head, finished with a 12-over 82.

Looks like Coach Jones needs to find him some depth for next year.

Chattanooga's Chris Robb who won a playoff against Liberty's Niklas Lindstrom to earn the individual spot from the West Regional. They both finished the tournament at 2-over to tie for 3rd place individually.

Looks like they nailed the seeding on Men's Golf. The top 4 seeds have made it to the match-play semifinals at Prairie Dunes.
Although they may not have re-seeded the teams for match play when only 8 teams remained.

#4 seeded Oklahoma State upsets top seed Stanford 3-2 today to move into the finals tomorrow against #2 seed Alabama.

The was a very competitive set of matches with OSU gaining he upper hand when Talor Gooch of OSU defeated Stanford's Maverick McNealy on the 3rd extra hole of their match. Gotta like the name Maverick McNealy though.

#1 nationally ranked Alabama vs #2 nationally ranked Oklahoma State in the NCAA team match play finals at Prairies Dunes today.

OSU's Talor Gooch went 1-up on the 1st hole. On the 2nd hole Gooch carded a birdie-2. However, he lost that hole to Alabama's Bobby Wyatt to square the match. You won't see that happen very often.

What a great week for Prairie Dunes and college golf. Congrats to Bama on defending. What a thrill for the Bama senior for eagleing #17 to win the title.

Alabama defeated Okie State 4 -1, but all 5 matches were pretty competitive. One match went 16 holes, 3 went 17 and one required the full 18.
