  • 2013 Shocker Men's Cross Country

The Shocker men finish 2nd at Nebraska, following up their win 2 weeks ago at home ... http://www.goshockers.com/ViewArticl...CLID=209264807

They were impressive up front, putting 3 in the top-4 with Chris Burnett winning his 2nd meet in a row. Chris was injured much of last year and is now showing his true potential. The Shocks lack depth and that is why Nebraska was able to beat them 28-37 as their 4-5 runners were well behind Nebraska's. If they can find a couple other guys to step up they could be quite a bit better than their 6th place MVC pre-season ranking. The MVC is a very good league for cross country so it will be a tough battle. Good job today guys!

    Cross Country update ...

The Shocker men went out to Oregon and placed 6th out of 11 teams. The 8k results:
    Hocker 24:45
    Burnett 25:24
    Johnson 25:33
    Nightengale 25:59
    Scott 26:03
    Lewis 26:20
    Raymond 26:30

Very strong race for Hocker while Burnett and Johnson ran pretty well too. The Shocks aren't very deep so the 4-7 guys will need to improve between now and MVC's if they want to improve on the pre-season 6th place projection.

The Shocker men ran at Bradley Saturday, here are the MVC teams that competed:

      1. Bradley 82
      2. Wichita St 100
      3. UNI 116
      5. Drake 145
      17. Illinois St "B" 459

      Shockers:
      2. Johnson 24:29
      10. Hocker 24:45
      14. Burnett 24:50
      36. Raymond 25:18
      48. Scott 25:30
      56. Busienei 25:37
      69. Lewis 25:47

      Bradley placed: 9-15-16-17-31-37-49

Essentially, this meet was a preview of the middle section of the MVC. Favorites SIU, Loyola, Illinois St, Indiana St didn't compete here so you can see how deep the conference is. WSU now has had 3 different runners lead them this year and the top-3 here was very good. The 4-5 runners are where they're gonna need to step up. It was a good run for Raymond as he is coming off an injury and Busienei ran his best race yet (also coming off injury). If they can continue to move forward the Shocks can surpass Bradley at the MVC and challenge the top-4, which would be a good result.

      Go Shocks!

Men tied for 5th (and women alone in 5th) at MVC meet. Not good start for All Sports Trophy race.
        78-65

I noticed the goShockers.com article and the results page showed the Shocker men in 6th place although both the Shocks and UNI scored 125 points.

Is there some type of tie breaker in XC that determines order of finish?

At least in high school you run seven and the first five score. The sixth is a tie breaker in a tie

Thanks. Looks like they ran 7 but the Shocks #6 runner finished 46th and UNI's #6 finished 47th but the have UNI listed in 5th and the Shocks 6th. I'm wondering if the combined finish of the #6 and #7 runners might be the tiebreaker in the Valley. In that case UNI's had a combine finish of 100 (47 + 53) while the Shocks were at 101 (46 + 55).
