  • Shocker 2013 Fall Golf Season

We new this Shocks were lost a lot of talent and experience from last year's team with Hunter Sparks, Rafael Becker and Tyler Gann graduating.

The first tournament of this fall, the Air Force Invitational, seems to bear that out as the Shocks finished 15th in the 16-team field.

Louis Cohen Boyer carded a 4-under 68 on Monday to vault into the top 10 at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational.

They did put up a competitive 3rd round s core of +4 primarily behind the 4-under 68 carded by Jr. Louis Cohen Boyer.

Looks like the guys have some major work to do if they are going to defend their MVC Crown in the spring.

So far the Shocks doing much better in this weeks tournament, the Ram Masters Invitational, hosted by Colorado State in Ft. Collins.

Shocks shot an even par in this morning's round with Jr. Louis Cohen-Boyer leading the way with a 4-under 66. Sr. Chandler Rusk, who didn't make the traveling squad last week shot a 1-over 71 as Fr. Grant Bennett. Timmy Jordan, the Freshman from Ireland with a 2-over 72.

Sr. Calvin Pearson did not figure in this morning's scoring with a 78. RS So. Alex Heinen, competing as in individual, shot a 69 this morning but is 9-over through 14 this afternoon.

About 3/4ths into this afternoon round the Shocks are 9-over which puts them in a tie with Louisville for 3rd, 6-shots behind co-leaders Colorado State and Nevada.

So far Calvin is leading the way this afternoon at even par through 10 holes. Looks like the Shocks need to develop a little more consistency. Still a big improvement over last week to this point.

    Leaderboard.

Shocks finish the day at +11. Calvin followed his 8-over morning round with a 1-under 69 in the afternoon but everyone else shot higher numbers in the afternoon. Grant Bennett had a solid day shooting +4 for the two rounds. Louis is even on the day going 4-over in the afternoon to offset his 4-under morning round. Timmy and Chandler both shot 5-over this afternoon.

The Shocks currently sit in 4 place 1 shot behind Louisville but the have several teams nipping at their heels as well. The could finish just about anywhere in this tournament depending on which Shocker team shows up tomorrow for the final round. Good luck, guys.

I'm afraid to say how Louis is playing today because I don't want to jinx him.

Louis went out in 4-under 31 today but bogeyed 2 of his last 3 holes to finish at 2-under 68 on the day and 2-under for the tournament.

Calvin Pearson matched his 1-under performance from yesterday but he also finished with a bogey on the final hole.

Chandler Rusk eagled the 15th but gave those shots back with bogies on 2 of his final 3 holes and he finished at 4-over on the day.

After going out in 4-over Timmy Jordan picked up a couple of birdies on the back nine to get to +2 but he bogeyed his final two holes to finish at +4 on the day.

The Shocks finished in 5th one shot behind Louisville and 2 shots behind Nevada. The could of easily finished 3rd if it wasn't for the barrage of bogies down the stretch (7 of the final 12 holes were bogies.)

Louis ended up in 4th place in the medal standings. A disappointing finish but a much, much better team performance than last week. The Shocks did finish 8-strokes ahead of the Kansas Jaybirds and they finished 47 strokes ahead of fellow Valley member Drake.

Shocks finish 5th in the 15-team field at the tournament hosted by UMKC.

Another top-10 finish from Louis Cohen Boyer lifted the Wichita State men's golf team to fifth place at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City

Louis Cohen Boyer lead the way for the Shocks with an even-par 216. Shocks shoot 889 as a team. Valley cohorts UNI (893), MSU (897) and DU (908) also participated in the tournament. Former Valley member Creighton finished 14th with a 913 (too bad!).

Louis picks up MVC Golfer of the Week Honors.

Louis Cohen Boyer was named the MVC Golfer of the Week for Oct. 16. Boyer turned in his third top-10 finish out of four fall tournaments by taking 7th at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate.

Looks like HCGJ signed a couple of good ones.

The Wichita State University men's golf team added two student-athletes in the fall signing period, head coach Grier Jones announced today.

Although I don't know why he story is on the Women's Basketball page.
