If my conversation formula is right, that's 840 points. Compare to the 7.55 he jumped in the NCAAs last year for 947 points.

I sent an e-mail regarding the live scoring to one of the Valley staff members although I'm not expecting anything to come from it.

Hey, maybe it did wake someone up. We have some stats.

Austin Bahner leading the Decathlon by 168 points after 2 events.

          Shockers currently sitting in 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th and 10th after 2 events.

Looks like Senior Alex Freshour and Freshman Drew Johnson are out after 1 event.

Is it just me or does it seem kind of silly to have a live video feed (with multiple camera angles) and have no stats, no updates, and no commentary available anywhere, especially in an event like the hammer throw?

Very fine effort (perhaps a PR) by So. Weston Cottrell in the men's hammer throw. Weston hammered it 205'6" to finish 2nd. His season best coming into the meet was 195'5" for 5th best in the Valley.

His teammate Taylor Goldsmith, also a soph, finished 8th inline with the form charts with a toss of 188'7".

So the Shocker men pick up 9 points in the hammer vs a form chart expectations of 5 points. Those unexpected points are always welcome.

Shocks with a solid 23 point pick up in the javelin with Chase Pote (10), Tyson Holmes (8), Austin Bahner (4) and Dylan Reimer (1) finishing 1st, 2nd, 5th and 8th. Not nearly as dominating as the Lady Shocks 31 point javelin haul but pretty damn good in line with the form charts.

The real challenge now is Austin Bahner's hamstring after 6 events today. Will it tighten up on him overnight? Hoping for he best because Austin deserves this decathlon title.

Indiana State did very well in the 10k picking up 21 points with a 1st, 3rd and 4th finish. However, the Shocks picked up an unexpected 4 points Chris Burnett picked up from his 5th place finish. So the net advantage to Indiana State was pretty much in line with expectations.

WSU's projections are updated for about a 20 point win, for what it's worth.

Both Indiana State and WSU qualified 2 for the 200 final, and again that appears to be a boost for WSU.

WSU only qualified 1 for the 1500 while the Trees qualified 2. WSU not expected to score much anyway here so if Ugis can just score, the Shocks should maintain the edge.

Indiana State's 200M qualifiers McQuay and Piraino had the 5th and 9th best times coming in so that was a maybe a slight positive for them getting 2 into the finals. The Shocks Johnson and Thompson were 8th and 11th coming in so getting 2 runners in was definitely a surprise. Now it will come down to how hey perform in the finals but the Shocks probably were not counting on more than 1 or 2 points here and are guaranteed at least 3.

Shocker Freshman Ugis Jocis had the 7th best 1,500M time coming in so he held form by qualifying. No guaranteed point there though as 12 runners advance to the finals.

It would appear the Shocker Freshman Hunter Veith is injured and unable to compete this weekend. He had the 2nd best Decathlon score and the 5th best long jump, high jump and triple jump in the Valley coming into the meet. However, he is not competing in the Decathlon and I don't see him listed in the heat sheets for any of the jumps.

That's a big blow to the Shockers as Hunter could have produced as many as 20 points for the men. His absence in and of itself will make things very interesting on the men's side.

The Shocker men hope to do well in the long jump today. They have 5 of the top 8 high jumpers on paper but it appears Hunter Veith (6'9.75") is out of commission. Hopefully, Garret Lynch (6'11.75"), Dave Brandhoff (6'10.75"), Kerry Graber (6'10.75") and Zach Budda (6'8.75") are all on their games today. Good luck guys.

Austin Bahner won the Decathlon with a score of 7,131. Not his best, but considering his battle with his hamstring, I'm thrilled that Austin can add a Valley Decathlon Title to his great Shocker legacy.

Shocker Fr. John Nicholas finished 5th, So. Chris Peters 7th and Fr. Kyle Troxler 8th for a total of 17 points. This is probably quite a bit less than the Shocks could have had if Freshman Hunter Veith could have competed and if Sr Tobias Boese, who finished 9th, had not no-heighted in the pole vault. So the Shocks left some points on the table here.

Plus Inidana State soph Brett Wehmiller finished 6th with a score of 6,068 which isn't in the Top 10 Valley scores this year for 3 unexpected points.
