    Congrats to Austin Bahner.

Always nice to see local kids (Wichita Heights) doing so well. Looking for a special Senior year from Austin. Hope he stays healthy throughout.

    Go Austin! Go Shocks!

Shocker men selected to finish 2nd in MVC Indoor Championship.

When I was looking at the heat sheets a couple of weeks ago I was thinking maybe 3rd this year. Obviously a 2nd place finish would be nice. Not sure we have the depth to challenge Indiana State though. What do think @goshox74:?

Indiana State with a dominating win at the Valley Indoor Championships winning with a point total of 151. The Shocker men finished a distant 2nd with 105 points in a very competitive race for 2nd.

          Nice job guys.

After looking at a couple of things on Saturday I had wondered if perhaps Austin Bahner had sustained an injury. Sure enough he did not place in the heptathlon nor a couple of event he would normally score in. Not sure what Austin's situation is but I certainly hope he can return to full health for the outdoor season.

The Shockers primary scoring was from the following events:

            Mile Run = 13 points:
            1st - Fr. Ugis Jocis (10) + 7th - Jr. Robbie Martinez-Garcia (2) + 8th - Sr. Kelvin Busienei (1)

            High Jump = 19 points:
            2T - So. Garret Lynch (7) + 4thT - So Zach Budda & Fr. Dave Brandhoff (9) + 6th So. Kerry Graber (3)

            Pole Vault = 10 points:
            4th - Jr. Ethan Pearson (5) + 6th - Sr. Lex Parssons (3) + 7th So. Chris Peters (2)

            Triple Jump = 11 points:
            1st - So. Shazz Michael Lindo + 8th - So. Taylor Cross (1)

            Heptathlon = 22 points:
            1st - Fr. Kyle Troxler (10) + 3rd - Sr. Tobia Boese (6) + 5th - Fr. Hunter Veith (4) + 7th - Fr. John Nicholas (2)

Bahner's injury or illness probably cost us 5 points in the Heptathlon. Not a huge hit because his teammates picked him up. Just fill badly for Austin that he was unable to finish.

Perhaps @goshox74 will stop by and fill us in on what happened with Austin.

Austin Bahner did pull out of the MVC Indoor Heptathlon due to injuries to both hamstrings. However, he already had a qualifying score so he will be participating in the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend at Albuquerque.

Hopefully, his injuries were relatively mild and they pulled him from the Valley competition in order not to aggravate the injuries and give him a shot competing in the National meet.

Hamstrings seem like they can linger but Austin is confident he is ready to compete this weekend.

WICHITA, Kan. ? Austin Bahner will represent Wichita State Shocker track and field at the NCAA Indoor National Championships this weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. Bahner will compete in the men's indoor heptathlon competition where he ranks 10th in the nation. Bahner scored 5,666 points at the Varsity Apartments Invitational, one of two Wichita State home meets.

              Good luck Austin.

Austin had to withdraw from the heptathlon competition after Day 1 due to injury.

WICHITA, Kan. - Austin Bahner withdrew from the NCAA Indoor Championships men's heptathlon competition after suffering an injury on day one of competition and was not able to complete in the remaining three events of the heptathlon.

I'm guessing he probably re-aggravated one or both of the pulled hammies that he suffered at the Valley Championships. Unfortunate the Austin was unable to be healthy through his final indoor season.

Hopefully, he will be able to take the time to fully recover and be a factor in the multi-events by the end of the outdoor season.

Good luck Austin. We're all rooting for you.

Shocks off to a solid start at the Carl Knight Invitational at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Kelvin Busienei won his second consecutive 1,500-meter race of the outdoor season after crossing the finish line with a time of 3:58 seconds.

Weston Cottrell brought home first place in the men’s hammer throw, marking the first time this season that a men thrower won their event. Cottrell’s throw measured 184 feet...

Brady Johnson ended the first day for the shockers with a win in the men’s 5,000-meter run. His time of 14:35 was four seconds faster than Shocker teammate Chris Burnett.

Ugis Jocis took second in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase while Ethan Pearson set a new personal best in the pole vault event after clearing 16-7 ¼.

Learn something new everyday I guess. I see Minnesota State is competing at the KT Woodman Classic at Cessna Stadium this weekend.

I always thought Minnesota State (Screaming Eagles) was totally a fictional school Coached by Hayden Fox (Craig T. Nelson) assisted by Luther and Dauber.

Come to found out the Minnesota State Mavericks are in fact real and they even have a football team (D-II). Actually Minnesota State was formerly known as Mankato State. The last airing of Coach was in May 1997. Mankato State changed its name to Minnesota State in 1998. Hmmm.

Kelvin is a great guy. Ran with him a couple of times when he was in El Dorado at Butler CC. Glad to see him having success.

64 Shocker track & filed athletes are headed to the Eugene, Oregon where they will join about 5,000 other athletes at the Oregon Relays.

EUGENE, Ore. ? 64 track and field athletes' made the trip to Eugen, Ore. for what is to be the largest track and field meet Wichita State will compete in this season. In a meet that will see 5,000 athletes' compete over the course of the weekend, the Shockers will use the Oregon relays to see where they compare to some of the top ranked schools in the country, as well as, preparation for the upcoming MVC meet in mid May.

I see that Austin Bahner is not competing in the decathlon. I hope that is just precautionary so that he is as healthy as possible for the MVC Championships in mid-May.

The Shockers sent 3 men, Senior Tobias Boese, Soph Chris Peters and Frosh Hunter Veith to compete in the Decathlon at the Oregon Relays. As with the women's Heptathlon this turned out to pretty much be a dual competition with the host Oregon Ducks.

Oregon does have a world class decathlete in Dakotah Keys. Unfortunately, none of the 3 Shocker men finished the competition which would indicate perhaps some injury problems. Hopefully, nothing too serious that will impact the Shocks chances in the Valley Championships in mid-May.

The Shocker Men are picked to win the 2014 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in a pre-championship poll of the league coaches.

The championship will be hosted by SIU in Carbondale this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Good luck, Guys. Let's bring home some more hardware.

My one fervent wish on the Men's side is that Shocker Senior Austin Bahner is in top condition after battling pulled hammies in both legs earlier this year. Yes, he has has definitely been hamstrung this year. That cost him another indoor Heptathlon championship and has certainly held him back during the outdoor season.

Would love to see the Heights High product go out with a bang both in the Valley Championships and in the NCAA Championships.

This is where I miss the input and knowledge of @goshox74

Edit: Eagle article on Austin's hamstring issues
