  • MVC Men's Golf Championship

The Shocks are off to a great start with 3 of the 8 Spring sport titles finished.

Tennis is based on the regular season standings and the Shocker women took 1st and the Shocker men took 2nd. Valley Tournaments still to come.

Golf is determined by the Championship Tournament and the Shocker women finished 2nd in miserable weather earlier on Monday.

The Shocker men are the unanimous selection to win the upcoming Men's Golf Championship next Monday and Tuesday in Cape Girardeau, MO on another Nicklause desgined course (sounds like a good one).

Right now the weather forecast looks very good. Partly cloudy and mid-70's.

    Go Shocks!

Shocks find themselves down by 3 strokes to Illinois State about midway through Round 1 at the MVC Championships.

A long way to go. Playing 36 holes today. 18 tomorrow.

Shocks at +1. Il St is at +4.

Wichita State's Tyler Gann at +3 (our 5th golfer) would at worse the #2 golfer for all but Il State.

Through 16 Drake's Devil Leland leads by 4 strokes with a -5, Drake's team is 9 back from the Shocks with a +10.

Shocks post an outstanding even par in round 1 and lead 2nd place Illinois State by 9 strokes, 3rd place Drake by 13 strokes and 4th place SIU by 16 strokes. MSU picked to finish 3rd is in 8th place, 22 shots back.

Shocks throw away score was a +3 by Tyler Gann, who is probably itching to get back on the course and contribute a score to the cause.

Louis-Cohen Boyer lead the way with a 3-under. He was at 1-under but on his final scorecard the double-bogey that was showing on #3 now shows as par.

The Shocks did not have a single double-bogey among their 5 golfers. Nothing worse than a bogey. That is some consistent, deep golf and I'll take two more rounds just like that any day.

And his score would be no worse than 2nd on 6 of the other 8 teams and would have scored on all the other teams.

Drake's Devin Leland is leading at -4. He has no support from his team with the other 3 golfers going +5, +5, +7 for a +13 team score.

While with the Shockers any one of their 5 guys is capable of being the low-man for any particular round. This is a quality, deep men's golf team that Grier Jones has put together.

Another local coach, along with Coach Louderback, that is enjoying great success.

The Drake golfer has imploded to start his 2nd round. Par, bogey, double, double and he's +5 on the round, +1 for the tourney and 4 shots back of the lead.

Rafa on the other hand has started par, birdie, birdie to climb into 2nd.

Right now WSU is putting the hammer down on the rest of the Valley. They lead Illinois State by 16 as they are -4 as a team early in round 2.

Louis Cohen Boyer having a strange afternoon round. He is even par after his 1st 6 holes. However he has not yet made par. He as gone, birdie, birdie, double-bogey, bogey, eagle, bogey. Just your average even par effort.

OTOH, Tyler Gann has 7 consecutive pars to open his round. Tyler's may be a bit boring but I hope he keeps it up.

Either way you slice it, they are both even on the round.

Edit: Wait a minute. Now Louis' scorecard shows him with one birdie and one bogey for an even par score after 6 holes. That was really screwy. It was like someone said Louis is even after his first 6 holes, just plug in whatever individual hole scores you like.

Shocker golfers occupy the #1 and #2 overall positions, as well as 2 of the 3 golfers tied for 3rd. Tyler Gann is the drag right now, all the way down in a tie for 9th overall.

I'm rooting for Tyler to get hot. Would love to see 5-way tie for medalist honors this time tomorrow afternoon.

I doubt that this will happen but you never know. I wonder if we have ever thrown out an under-par round before?

He's going to have to so that he can keep pace with the rest of the white-hot Shocks. They are 6 under. Boyer leads at -3, while Becker, Sparks and Pearson are all tied for 2nd at -1.
