  • Shocker Men's Golf - Summer Exploits

Shocker men's golf team should be very solid next year.

Shocker senior-to-be Rafael Becker recently won his 3rd consecutive Brazilian Amateur Championship and is playing very well in the 106th Southern Amateur, currently in a tie for 7th as the 3rd round is being played today.

I have to apoligize to Rafael as I must have jinxed him. He struggled to a 5-over 41 on his final 9 to finish at +2 and in a tie for 28th.

    Sorry about that Rafael.

Kansas Amateur starts today at Sand Creek GC up in Newton. AJ Gebert, Alec Heinen, Myles Miller, Elliot Soyez and Hunter Sparks are the Shockers that I could find in the field. Also of note, Randall Vautravers from the basketball team made it through qualifying and will play as well. Good luck Shox!

          Stroke Play Results: http://www.ghintpp.com/kga/TPPOnline...ke.aspx?id=278

Low 64 players after 36 holes of stroke play advance to the single elimination match play bracket.

Shocker Senior Hunter Sparks is the defending champion. He shot an opening round 73 and is tied for 13th.

Shocker Soph Myles Miller sits in 3rd with a nice 70 in the opening round.

Shocker Soph Myles Miller ties for medalist honors in the stroke play portion after firing a sizzling 7-under 65 in Round 2.

He moves on to as either the 1 or 2 seed into bracket play.

Shocker Senior Hunter Sparks joins Myles in bracket play as he finishes 4th in stroke play improving by 6 strokes from round 1 as he carde a 5-under 67 today.

Shocker Soph Alec Heinen 75-74 = 149 was good for a tie for 35th and moves him on to the match play bracket.

Shocker Junior A.J. Gebert shot 77-79 = 156 and missed the cut by 2 strokes.

Former Shocker basketball walk-on Randy Vautravers shot 82-73 = 155 and missed the cut by just 1 stroke.

Good luck to Myles, Hunter and Alec in the match play portion of the tournament. I'm rooting for Myles vs Hunter match in the finals.

Randy Vautravers is Randall's father. Randall (former walkon) shot 82-86.

Also Miller will play at Newman next year...speaking of Newman Mark Jolliffe, Tyler Chapman and Derek Harrison still in the battle.

Man, I should just quit I guess. Not gettin' anything right. Although Miller was still listed on the Shockers roster as of yesterday. However, I just checked it again and he has been removed.

Hunter Sparks won his match today 4 and 3 and will face fellow Shocker (at list he is still on the roster as of today) Alec Heinen who won his 1st match 3 and 2 in the Round of 32 tomorrow.

I would not totally relay on anything I have posted at this point. You might want to verify these results.

Shocker Soph Alec Heinen is 4 up after 9 on Shocker Seniro and defending Kansas Amateur Champ Hunter Sparks in today's Round of 32 match.

Too bad the two Shockers had to match up so early in the match bracket.

Update: Hunter rallied on the final 9 but Alec holds on to win 1-up.
Alec moves on to the Sweet 16.

Alec Heinen followed up his win over Hunter Sparks with a 1-up, 22 hole win Friday afternoon. 40 holes of golf in this heat had to be fun.

Unfortunatley, Alex's run came to an end in the Elite 8 as he lost 3 and 1 to K-State's Kyle Smell, which you must admits kind of stinks.

Shocks add a trasnfer, Chandler Rusk out of Edmond, Oklahoma, to their already very solid 2012-13 roster.

Looks like the competition for that 5th and final spot on the tournament roster is going to be pretty intense this year. Hopefully, that competition will just make everyone work a little harder and make the team a little better as the Shocks look to be heavy favorites to win their 6th consecutive MVC Golf crown.

                            Welcome to Shocker nation Chandler.
