Shockers close to finishing out their first round and currently tied for 4th with UAB, 3 shots behind San Francisco.

WSU's Louis Cohen Boyer just went into the individual lead at 4-under with one hole to play.

Cohen Boyer finished with a birdie on 18 to finish round 1 at -5 and take a 2-stroke lead.

WSU sits tied for 1st with USF and Cal. Three Shockers still playing.

Hmm, well, it appears GolfStat or somebody had Boyer's score wrong and he was actually at -3, not -5. That puts him tied for 2nd and WSU drops to a tie for 4th.

Yeah, a good round by the Shocks. Tyler Gann's score blew up early as he had triple bogey's on #4 and #6 and struggled home with an 8 over 78. Fortunately the rest of the guys were solid and Tyler's score became of no consequence for the team.

The guys played the 2 par 5 holes in 12 under par including eagles by Gann, Boyer and Pearson.

Very solid 3 under 67 by the freshman Boyer.

Top 5 teams make the NCAA Championship plus the highest individual score not on one of the 5 advancing teams also makes the NCAA Championship Tournament. Good start for the 7th seeded Shocks but this won't be easy. San Francisco the #11 seed the surprise so far.

I'm unfamiliar with NCAA golf. How many rounds, etc?

The 1st of 3 rounds. The top 5 teams + lowest individual from teams not advancing go to Nationals.

With only 10 shots separating 1st - 10th, this should be an entertaining regional.

              Go Shocks!

3 Rounds. Five members on each team. Each round's score consists of the 4 lowest scores for that round with the high score tossed out.

Today the Shocks scores were Boyer 67 (-3), Becker 70 (E), Sparks 70 (E), Pearson 71 (+1) and Gann 78 (+8). So Gann's score is not used for this round. Shocks combined shot 278 (-2).

Good job by Louis, Raphael, Hunter and Calvin to pick up Tyler today.

This regional is going to be tight. Also, with the way the scoring works, positions can and will change wildly.

Lastly, the course is playing more than fair, allowing for the kids to go low. Birdies are everywhere. About the best we can expect is to stay around the top 5 going into tomorrow. I suspect 10 teams (at a minimum) will be within 10-15 shots of qualifying at the end of the day.

Yep, we are now 7th but only five total shots off the lead. Team is even for the day so far.

About half way through their round 4 of the guys are at even par and Hunter Sparks is 3-over. They just need to stay reasonably close to 5th place so they have a shot going into the final round tomorrow. A lot can still change in today's round, good or bad. So far their doing OK.

Boyer must really like hole #7. He's eagled it both days.

We need a lot more of that. The Shocks are starting to lose touch a bit....they're back to even for the tourney, +2 on the day. Several teams are going LOW including Oregon State who just blew by the Shocks.

We need to right the ship before it's too late. Currently in 9th, 5 shots out of a playoff to advance.

The Shocks 5-over effort today was only topped by SE Lousiana's 9-over and paled in comparison to the 15-under put on the board by San Diego State and numerous other low scoring efforts today.

Unfortunately the Shocks now find themselves 10 shots behind 5th place Tennessee and complicating matters is that they have 3 teams between them and Tennessee including Oregon State who went 11 under today.

Not impossible for the Shocks but they are going to have to go low tomorrow and hope a number of teams in front of them stumble. Not really looking good for the Shocks.
