FCS to expand playoffs, Non scholarship Pioneer league to get bid. Shocker Football?

According to the following web site our undergrad enrollement is about 54% female and 46% male.

The other 2 ways to demonstrate compliance are:

1. Demonstrating a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex. This prong of the test is satisfied when an institution has a history and continuing practice of program expansion that is responsive to the developing interests and abilities of the underrepresented sex (typically female).
2. Accommodating the interest and ability of underrepresented sex. This prong of the test is satisfied when an institution is meeting the interests and abilities of its female students even where there are disproportionately fewer females than males participating in sports.

These two options seem to be more abstract and general in nature, especially #2.

And a small step above the KCAC (a nice conference for what they do). There are a lot of very good Div. I sports and basketball programs who don't have football. I can't name very many very good Div. I sports programs who have Div. III football (NCAA Div. III is very much the same as the NAIA).

Non scholarship football competes at the FCS level, they are eligible for an at large selection to the FCS playoffs, they just didn't have an auto bid. Now they are talking about giving the pioneer league (the league WSU would be in) an auto bid to the FCS playoffs. It is FCS football without the scholarships.

If you were offered to play at WSU against other FCS schools with chance of playoffs or play at friends,bethel,etc where would you choose? So yeah it would be above the KCAC. It would also be above DII, unless you can't comprehend FCS being above DII. Non Scholarships teams can award academic scholarships to their players so there is that. Also Division II only has 36 total scholarships and they can be divided up, so I don't think too many get full rides at that level.

I think WSU would struggle without scholarships.

Join a nonscholarship league, and you'll have eight games a year against teams in your weight class.

The PFL expands to 12 teams (two divisions) in 2013. Even so, I don't think they're ready to put the brakes on expansion yet.

Well you suddenly have to add womens sports and scholarships.

I just think non scholarship would get it going. Do that for a few years then jump into the Valley and Scholarships.

Title IX requires (approximately) equal opportunities and scholarships. But n/s football would take scholarships out of the equation. For other schools, nonscholarship women's crew has been the go-to sport when adding women's opportunities has been necessary.

A word on travel. Yeah it's expensive. Football budgets at at most PFL schools will push a million bucks a year. Ticket sales probably won't pay for it all.

But consider what 100 recruited football players pay in tuition. Now the subsidy doesn't look so bad, does it?

Compare to scholarship costs (tution + allowed expenses) for football players AND the women in the sport Title IX will require you to add. Even if scholarship football increases attendance to the MVC average, you'll be swimming in red ink. And your athletic department is debt adverse.

Below the FBS level, scholarships do not necessarily make a better team. I hope this year's San Diego-Harvard game is televised so you can see the quality of those nonscholarship teams. Either one would give Pitt State a good game.

If you can attract quality student-athletes, and get them on academic/merit aid, you'll be able to beat a lot of teams that only have partial athletic scholarships to offer. That's right, partial scholarships--players at Emporia split just 36 rides.

WSU isn't Harvard, but if Morehead State can be successful in the nonscholarship model, so can you.
