    From today's Eagle article:

Todd McKown is the favorite in the 110 hurdles, although a sore right hamstring may hamper his time.
    Hopefully, Todd's hamstring holds up.

Austin Bahner apparently not participating in the Decathlon. Not sure if that is by design or if he an injury/illness is at play.

Maybe @goshox74 can shed some light on this.

Shocker Sr. Aaron Young off to a good start in the decathlon.

Men's 10K has been pushed back to 8:45pm this evening.

The men's field is a little more crowded then the women's field with 18 runners (vs 11 for the women).

The only Shocker schedule to run this event is Junior Marcos Bailon.

The only event scored so far is the Men's Hammer Throw. As with the Women's team the Shocker Men do not field a competitor in this event. Points in the Hammer Throw were ILS - 11, INS - 10, UNI - 9 and SIU - 9.

Also as with the Women's team the Shocks should make up for that with their cadre of multi-eventers. There are 11 decathletes competing and 5 of those are Shockers and 3 are from Northern Iowa including the event favorite Daniel Gooris.

The 5 first day events (100m, LJ, SP, HJ and 400m) are completed with the standings as follows:

            1. Andrew Young, WSU - 3,903
            2. Daniel Gooris, UNI - 3,766
            3. Mac Griffith, WSU - 3,639
            4. Tobias Boese, WSU - 3,630
            5. Robert Webb, INS - 3,602
            6. Justin Hickey, WSU - 3,535
            7. Alex Freshour, WSU - 3,382
            8. Kevin Fisch, ILS - 3,258
            9. Ben Lindaman, UNI - 3,239
            10. Tyler Clark, UNI - 3,202
            11. Dean Jordan, SIU - 3,122

Top 8 places score (10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1). Final five events tomorrow are the 110m hurdles, discuss, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m run. Gotta be in shape to be a decathlete.

Shocks could pick up about 25 points in this event if all goes well tomorrow. The heptathlon and decathlon events start at 10:00 am tomorrow.

Illinois State's Tim Glover, a junior, threatened his MVC record in the men's javelin but came up about 4' short. Still he tossed the spear 254'6" which was more than enough to win the javelin. BTW, Glover is defending National Champion and currently ranked #1 in the nation so this win is as expected.

Wichita State senior Brett Trudo took second with a solid throw of 237'1" which was 28.5' more than the 3rd place finisher and his best effort of the year.

Shocker junior Jon Rizzo was 4th and Shocker Freshman Alex Freshour, who apparently needed more to do after competing in the 5 decathlon events earlier in the day picked up a point by finishing in 8th place.

Shock's pick up 14 points in the javelin.

The men's 10K was much more competitive than the women's but the Shocker's Marco Bailon faded late and finished out of the scoring in 11 place.

Terrific updates 1972Shocker! Bahner isn't competing in the Decathlon be design, he has a chance to score points in the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump as well as possibly the relays. The Shockers are pretty well stacked in the Decathlon and the 10-event drain would hamper his other events. Decent first day for the Shockers.

Aaron Young leading the decathlon after Day 1 looked like he was heading to a very strong result in the 110m hurdles when he hit one of the last 2 or 3 hurdles knocking him badly off balance as he stumble home. In fact, he was disqualified for pushing a hurdle and failed to score at all. He never really recovered
                  and finished 11th (last).

UNI Daniel Gooris three-peated as decathlon champ. However, the Shocks did capture the next 4 spots with Mac Griffith, Justin Hickey, Toby Boese, and Alex Freshour combining to earn 23 team points.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.
