Boy, that story really runs the gamut of emotions. Sounds like a great group of young men made up that Alpine Rescue team and that includes a 12-year old John Putt. No John, you are not a coward. Just the opposite is true. The fact is, you are another victim of that horrible day which makes you one of our Shocker brothers. Hope you find the peace you are searching for and so richly deserve. IMO, John and his fellow Rescue team members should all be made honorary lifetime members of the WSU Alumni Association.

You know what might be cool. Find John Putt and as many of his fellow Alpine Rescue Team members as possible and fly them into a Shocker Basketball game to be recognized at half time. Put them up in a nice hotel and treat them to a nice dinner. Distribute copies of this article at the gates before the game. Award them honorary WSU Alumni Association memberships during a halftime ceremony. Might not be a dry eye in the place.

Ok. I've submitted this to Darron Boatright for consideration. We'll see what if anything happens with it. Time and money are valuable commodities in the Shocker AD so who knows whether this is a really feasible idea or not.
