Tulsa has taken the #4 singles 6-0, 6-1 and the #2 singles 6-3, 6-1 to take the lead 2-1. The Shocks now need to win 3 of the 4 remaining singles matches to win the match.

Shocker Sr. Haru Inoue in an extremely tight 1st set wins 7-6 in a close tiebreaker at #1 singles.

Shocks tie it up at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #6 singles.

#5 singles is tied at 3-3 in Set 3 and Murkel Delien just extended the #2 singles to a 3rd set with a 7-5 win in set 2.

Haru just closed out a win at #1 singles with a 6-2 win in set 2 to go along with his tough 1st set tiebreaker to put the Shocks up 3-2.

Shocks need a win at either #2 or #5 singles which are both in the 3rd set.
    .
In the #5 singles Shocker Fr. Orel Ovil leading 6-5 in set 3 and receiving serve goes 15-30-40-game-set-match. Shocks win 4-2. Orel came back from a 0-6 drubbing in set 1 to take sets 2 and 3 by scores of 6-2 and 7-5.

Murkel was in a tight 3rd set at the #2 singles at 1-6, 7-5, 3-2 when Orel finished off the Golden Hurricane.

How about the Shocker freshmen. Stefan Latinovic picking up a win at #6 singles and Orel Ovil clinching the win at #5 single.

Well done men. Not really sure at all but this win might put the Shockers in the hunt for an at-large invite to the NCAA Tournament.

    :encouragement:

The #5 seed Shockers are up against #1 seeded UCF in the AAC Semi-finals today.

UCF grabs the doubles point winning the #2 doubles 6-1 and the #1 doubles 7-6 in a tight tiebreaker. The #3 doubles was tied at 6-6 with the Shocks up 5-3 in the tiebreaker. If the Shocks had been able to win the tiebreaker in #1 doubles they had a good shot at the doubles point. Close but no cigar.

UCF extends their lead to 3-0 with easy wins at #5 (6-3, 6-1) and #6 (6-1, 6-3) singles. That puts the Shocks' back to the wall. The need to sweep the remaining 4 singles to pull of the big upset. The Shocks are battling but doesn't look like that is going to happen.

It did not happen. UCF takes the #3 single 6-3, 6-3 and eliminate the Shocks form the Tournament. The 3 unfinished singles matches were pretty tight and competitive. The Shocks probably needed to win that doubles point to have had a realistic chance of the upset.

Pretty good year for the Shocker men IMO. Whether or not they are in the hunt for an NCAA at-large big is above my pay grade. I'm thinking they could be on the bubble bit that's more a gut feeling than anything.

Murkel Dellien & Marius Frosa Tabbed All-Conference

The men's team consists of six singles players and three doubles tandems, based on ITA rankings. This is fine but seems a little unusual in that the Women's All-Conference team consists of 12 individual players selected by the head coaches. OTOH there is nothing written that say the men's tennis and women's tennis have to use the same system in naming All-Conferece teams.

In any case the Shocker duo of juniors Merkel and Marius Frosa were 1 of the 3 doubles teams receiving All-Conference honors.

          Congratulations guys.

Unfortunately, the Shocker men did not make the NCAA Tournament. The AAC is represented by USF, UCF and Tulane in the 64-team field.

USF and UCF each have 1 players among the 64 players in the singles draw.

UCF is the only AAC school participating in the 32 team doubles draw. Murkel Delien and Marius Frosa are #2 on the alternates list should any of the 32 teams selected withdraw.

Princeton wins the first set 6-4.

M & M came back to win the second set 6-3 and then won the tiebreaker 11-9.

The WSU duo fell behind 4-1 to Princeton. But Dellien and Frosa recovered to take a 9-7 lead. Princeton fought off two match points to tie the game, 9-9, but WSU won the final two points to win the match.

On to the Sweet 16. Very nice work guys. Shocker Duo Earns All-America Honors, Reach Elite 8

Frosa and Dellien will take on the winner of Patrick Kaukovalta/Mazen Osama of Alabama and Bo Boyden/William Blumberg in quarterfinal action, slated for 3 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Got a feeling this duo was severely underrated coming into this.
