  • Former Shocker Head Footall Coach Bob Seaman Passes Away at Age 86

    https://goshockers.com/news/2018/8/1...cult-time.aspx

Coach Seaman tookover the team after the 1970 plane crash. Talk about tough duty. He finished out that season and coached 3 more season after that.

He did manage to produce the only winning record between 1964 and 1982 when the Shocks went 6-5 in 1972.

    May he rest in peace.

The Wichita State and Marshall connection gets even more tangled. The day that WSU lost Bob Seaman, Marshall lost "Young Thundering Herd" icon, QB Reggie Oliver. Oliver was the starting QB on the 1971 team following the Southern Airways 932 disaster on Nov 14, 1970. The "Young Thundering Herd" is what the media dubbed the 1971 team as the NCAA had just granted Marshall a waiver to play freshman. That's also the reason that Oliver wasn't on the plane as he was a freshman in 1970.

The Marshall University quarterback who was part of the team's return after the 1970 plane crash that killed 75 players has died
