Nice accomplishment for Crawford, qualifying for his first NCAA meet and beating out some very quality competitors in the process. I believe the West is much stronger in both the TJ and the Javelin so hopefully our guys will be able to compete well in 2 weeks!

No we didn't. It was a significantly special year in the NCAA Decathlon as Slupkowski's 7350 score would've qualified most years. Indoor was the same was as he missed by 3 points and became the "best ever to not qualify for NCAA's". :)

The NCAA Finals begin tomorrow and the Shockers will have 2 men representing the squad.

Brett Trudo, a junior who has been to all the big meets (2 NCAA Finals and the 2008 Olympic Trials) will start things Wednesday at 3:05pm in the Javelin. Josh Crawford will triple jump Saturday at 11:05am.

Trudo enters the competition as the #22 seed but is only about one meter from 14th. His personal best would put him in the top-10.

Crawford enters the meet at the #16 seed and his personal best would put him #6!

Good luck Shockers and bring home some all-American honors!!!

Doesn't look like Brett is going to make the finals (Top 9 after 3 attempts).

Brett's best was throw was on his 3rd attempt at 213-2 which is well behind the current 9th place throw of 229-5.

Tim Glover of Illinois State is currently in the lead with a monster throw of 263-6 on his 1st attempt which is 17-5 ahead of the next best throw. That may just hold up for a National Title.

Edit: Brett will finish 23rd (out of 24). I'm sure he is a little disappointed in his performance, but he did make the National Championship and that in itself is a great accomplishment. Brett is a Junior so hopefully he will get another shot at it next year.

Virginia Techs's Matthias Treff went 255-6 on his 6th attempt but that was not good enough to overcome Illinois State's Tim Glover's big 1st throw as Glover is the NCAA Champion in the javelin.

Interestingly the top 4 finishers in this event were sophs and the 5th place finisher was a freshman.
