I wouldn't say there are fair-weather fans - more like Monday morning quarterbacking - and people can do that if they wish. Too bad many are similar to Mr. Steven's color comentary on TV. :)

Did any of you even listen to the post game remarks made by coach Marshall? He said the team was crushed and he hoped the fans would not give up on the team. I remember sitting through many lean years and believe me this is not 1 of them! The team needs our support now more than ever. For what it's worth-if you are going to trash the team then you should stay home and let some of the many loyal, supportive fans have your seat. The team could do without you!
This is the type of "good enough" attitude of low expectations that locks Wichita into its mediocrity trap. Never bad enough to abandon all hope and try something new and therefore never improving enough for excellence.

I agree that there probably aren't too many "fair weather" fans reading this board. Living in Texas, it is the only way I can get the good, and sometimes bad, information on the Shockers. Every season, my expectations/hopes are set by two things; the quality of the team, players and coach, and the clean slate that comes with a record of 0-0 as the season starts. Some years, the expectations are lowered pretty quickly as the true quality of the team is revealed. Other years, there is hope until deep in the season until an injury or a loss to CU, SWMST, or NI happens. Then there are the magical years like 2006 when for a whole season, I'm left going wow; these guys are phenomenal.

When the realization sets in for the season that WSU is really just a normal mid-major basketball team with the occasional run at greatness happens, there is kind of a let down. For me, this past loss was that game that told me yeah, this isn't the 2006 team, or a Levingston/Carr team, or an X team. They are just a bunch of really good kids and athletes playing their best while representing WSU. Same with the coach. The guy is good, but good at this level, not good at the Duke or Carolina or KU level, and neither are the Shox. Still love Shocker basketball though!

And still realize that in certain seasons, the Shocker can beat anyone.
