  • Helloooo, Shocker Radio.......

Can we get a synced up with television radio broadcast please? Surely if the Chiefs and K State can do it, you can too.

Note to Bruce-It's okay once in a while to suggest a call made by a referee went against the Shockers.

If you listen to the feed through shockerradio.com you can pause and sync them up yourself. Assuming it's ahead.

Actually, I don't. My computer is nowhere near my television. Guess I could use my laptop if worse came to worse but the speakers aren't the best.

Considering that the video feeds themselves aren't synced...no

You've got Dish, Direct-Tv and Cox, and then you have direct connections, and DVR connections, all of which having different amounts of latency, and on the order of a few seconds.
(If you have it, try this, one TV through a Cox Box DVR, and one on the analog feed....there will be a delay on the Cox Box TV)

So even if they did sync up to one configuration, it won't work for everyone.

I thought I heard Mike Kennedy say the guy at the station could sync it up with the Cox feed (assuming the Box DVR) if he had it on in front of him and would try to do it. That was several games ago and still no sync.

the internet feed is way behind, but if you have a DVR you can pause your TV and sync it up with the internet radio. I've normally found it to be in the 8 or 9 second range.

This is exactly our challenge. Too many ways that the signal is delivered to be able to sync up to 1 feed. We sync based on the non-box delivery via Cox cable, regardless of which station the game is played on (except those ONLY on the digital channels, like ESPNU). We are just guessing on the digital games as we don't have access to the feed in the radio studio (unlike the standard Cox channels, which are piped into the studio).

We try very hard to provide a signal that everyone can listen to while they are watching, but with so many options to match to, we have to choose the one most widely used and go with that. If any engineers out there who love the Shox have a better solution, trust me, I'm all ears.

I appreciate the response. FWIW, my vote goes to syncing with the box delivery on Ch 22 games although I guess I can unhook my box if I have to.

COX just needs to work out a deal with Shocker Radio to have Mike Kennedy call the games that they telecast and also carry his call over the radio. No sync issues at that point for their telecasts. ESPN and the other cable channels - well, that is another issue. Technology should allow the cable companies to carry the call by multiple announcers (Shockers announcer, opposing team announcer plus network announcers) and let the viewer decide which audio feed he wants to listen to. If they can provide TV broadcasts in multiple languages, then they can do the same for sportscasts (how do I file patent rights for this great idea? :D )

If Shocker radio would just delay their feed 10 seconds, then most of us could sync up by using DVD or Internet pausing techniques. The problem is the radio audio feed is always the most real time feed, and it needs to be the feed delayed the most. If we control the Syncing, We have the best chance to make it work.

That being said, please don't delay the home broadcasts. Those of us in the arena with radios will be real unhappy!

I'm not sure I understand this. If the audio is ahead then just hit pause on the audio player until the video catches up. Then hit play. I'm pretty sure a lot of people around here do exactly that.

I really don't try to sync audio and video. I usually have Shockerradio muted while watching the game on TV.

If I could get them synced perfectly, I would. But since I can't, I like it when I'm able to see the Shockers make a great play on TV, and then am able to unmute Shockerradio in time to hear Mike Kennedy's reaction to that same play.

I don't think they have done a delay at all this year. I absolutely hate it when home games get delayed though. Priority should be to those in the stadium.
