  • Hotel in St. Louis

For those of you looking to make the trip to St. Louis for the Valley tournament, ShockerRadio has secured a block of rooms at our official broadcast partner hotel, the Crowne Plaza St. Louis Downtown. Rates start at $95 a night with a 2 night minimum.

One thing you should all know about regarding this particular weekend in the Lou. The Soulard Mardi Gras is also on the same weekend for the first time that the Valley has been in St. Louis. This event regularly sells out the downtown hotel rooms by itself. So you can imagine how much demand there will be once everyone figures out that the 2 events are on the same weekend. DO NOT WAIT TO GET YOUR ROOMS IF YOU PLAN TO GO. In the past, the hotel gave me 100 rooms to sell and would give me more if we needed them. This year, we are limited to 50 total rooms and I can't get anymore once they are gone. I have only told a few friends about this new deal and already the block is 20% sold. Use the following link to book your rooms:

At the risk of taking this somewhat off-topic, what is everyone's opinion on St. Louis allowing these two events to occur on the same weekend, possibly hurting the attendance for both?

I was not planning on attending anyway but if I were I might be a little miffed if booking a decent hotel room just became twice as difficult.

Time to rotate with KC, in my opinion.

Is this hotel within walking distance of the arena? If not, is there easy transportation from the hotel to the arena?

I believe the Crowne Plaza is about 1.5 miles from the arena. I believe that's where I stayed a couple years ago. If the weather is nice, it's not a bad walk. If the weather is as bad as it usually is, it won't be fun.

It said there wasn't any rooms available. Is there a code for the block of rooms?

              rooms

I booked last week at the Westin St. Louis. I believe this is the team hotel. They told me last week they were filling quick because of both events going on. One thing if you decide with the Westin....make sure to ask for the WSU block of rooms. That is the only thing they have left.

I can't walk that far. Taxis service?

Beats me. It was 60 or so all weekend and I enjoyed the walk. I'm sure you could find something. I'd rather stay closer anyway. Plus, I wasn't overly impressed with the hotel

I'm with you on the 'rotate with KC' idea.

STL's Mardi Gras is second only to New Orleans, and it's closing the gap. They don't select the date, it occurs each year on the Easter schedule (40 days prior). Since Easter is later this year, it conflicts. In all honesty, I don't know how STL is going to hold that many people. Downtown's hotels fill up for both events, standing alone.

Well, I got called the Westin and was told no rooms but did not tell them I was with WSU. So I booked with the Sheraton. While I'll miss seeing the team every day on the elevators and at breakfast, I'll enjoy being across the street from the arena and having a pool for my four kids, (The Westin lacks this).

Also, we went to a jammin pep rally at the Westin last year and got some great pictures with Wu and the cheerleaders and I'm looking forward to not having to carry my three year old and four year old a half mile after drinking several beers at the arena.

I jsut called the Westin and got a room. Make sure you tell them it's with the WSU Fan Block. Currently $189 a night.

What days should we be booking through? From Thursday to when?

I only booked 3rd through 6th because I wasn't sure, but will call back and book further out, if that's the best idea?

I was pretty disappointed when they decided to keep the MVC tourney in St. Louis a few years back. Don't get me wrong, I love going to St. Louis and I think the Scottrade (Savvis, or whatever they're calling it this year) is a great place to hold the event. It's within walking distance of Union Station and a short train ride away from LaClede's landing.

That said, I think it is unfair to two of the MVC's largest fan bases. Us and Creighton. Both schools consistently bring more fans than all but SIU and MSU and those two schools are like 30 minutes away from St Louis. KC is a great city, the Sprint center is a sparkling venue, and it's at least 4 hours closer for us and Creighton and the distance is a wash for the other schools besides ISU and BU. The least they could do is rotate it between KC and St. Louis every other year. I don't like to complain too much about Elgin but he dropped the ball on this one. AND totally mishandled 1.9 Gate.

I think most Shocker fans would love to see the MVC in KC but it's never going to happen with Elgin. Elgin runs on the notion that everything is going great and nothing needs to be changed. He goes on Creighton radio claiming the MVC is going to get 2 or 3 NCAA bids.

Another point regarding a move to KC, is that it's probably not in the best interest of the MVC. They can fill up Scottrade with all the schools put together. If you move to KC you're putting all of your stock in CU/WSU. If you end up with a UNI vs anyone else final, that's an empty arena on CBS. They can get CU/WSU fans to come to the games no matter where it is, might as well stick it next to all the schools without any fans.

Umm...no. Mo St is actually closer to Kansas City.
