Trop - when you make the post (or edit it) there are some checkboxes below where you type the text. One is "Disable Smilies in this post". You can use that to avoid the smiley problem. ;-)

I usually just use the character entity for the number 8. With Smilies disabled you can't do something like this: (8) :good:

Of course when someone responds to a post with (8) in it, it will revert back to (8), unless the 8 is replace with the character entity.

I have 17 (8+9) which is what you show; however, I am also listed with 18 which is incorrect (Ed Harley is listed twice).
