  • Bracket Busters

Last night on the pregame a caller asked what teams would be good bracket busters teams for WSU. Their was some discussion about Butler maybe not being the best game for the due to their rpi?

I didn't think that Butler was participating this season or at least wasn't playing an away game or something like that?

    Are they a potential opponent?

I'm not sure of the specific reason, but I know that Butler is not participating this year.

The best site I know of to look at potential Bracket Buster matchups is http://www.rpiforecast.com/bb.html

I'd love to get Utah St. back here this year.

I know it won't...just wishful thinking.

Give me some Kent St. as a second choice.

I really don't understand why we can't get a home-and-home with Utah State or George Mason and drop bracket busters. It seems like our "best case scenario" is getting Utah State or George Mason in bracket busters every year. Let's take out the guessing and hoping game. If we don't get one of those "top 4" bracket buster games we're looking at a 70 or 80 RPI team. Is a game on ESPNU really that important? Could we not get a Wichita State - Utah State game on ESPN?

Butler was allowed out of Bracketbusters to allow for a game to play a rematch with Duke earlier in the year.

There is someone on the VCU forums that charts possible matchups based on RPI. He has WSU playing Utah State in the 4th spot. I am not sure if that is possible since they played last year - Vermont and Davidson are possible alternatives.

                    I'd take Vermont.

And maybe Davidson just cause they still kind of have a bigger name than we do tbh.

By the time matchups are announced, I think we'll be aligned closely with Cleveland St.

I think I remember this guy from last year getting most of the matchup right by the time they were announced. I still think it is too early to tell as we get into conference play. Plus this site has VCU playing at James Madison which isn't possible because they are in the same conference.

On a side note how does the Colonial have 6 teams in the top 100 RPI, while the MVC only has 3? Against the big 6 the Colonial went 6-15 while we went 6-18. Seems like we should have more or his RPI is slanted to the Colonial conference.

I don't think that there are any good matchups out there. Certainly none that seem to help us.

I would rather add a game against a Colorado, Virginia, Providence, South Carolina or USC....even if it's away....then play the teams we are currently discussing. Most of these other conferences are 1 bid conferences aren't they?

The only thing that makes this somewhat digestable is that we get some national TV possibly.

You need to dig a little deeper as to who they've beaten and who they've played.

Using RealTime, the Colonial top 6 has 11 quality wins / 7 bad losses. The MVC top 6 has 4 quality wins / 10 bad losses.

Colonial top 6 have played 17 teams with 200-299 RPIs and 8 teams below 300. The MVC top 6, 17 teams 200-299 RPI and 12 teams below 300. James Madison is the worst in the top 6 Colonial playing 2-200 and 3-300. Our 4th and 5th RPI teams of CU and In St are 4-200 and 3-300 / 3-200 and 3-300.

Also, the top 6 from the Colonial are 32 games over .500. The MVC top 6 are 21 games over.
