WSU VERSUS EVANSVILLE PREDICTIONS AND PREGAME DISCUSSION
This game has no business being close. If the Shox come out and take care of business like they're more than capable of, we'll see the end of the bench.
Wheaties - 74
Didn't we vote to keep these guys out of town and down around Mulvane - 59
UE might want to slow it down and D it up, but they don't have rebounders. WSU wins the track meet after UE misses, gets at least 10 points on put backs, and gets past 70.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
Evansville starting point guard is 6'0" Sr. Kavon Lacey who is backed up by 6'0" So. Troy Taylor. These two appear to definitely be pass-first PG's. They are averaging 4.1 PPG combined. Neither shoots much nor gets to the line much. Taylor is 2-10 from the line in 10 games.
6'1" So. Ned Cox is a little more offensive minded averaging 6.7 PPG in 21 MPG, primarily plays the 2 but can play the point if needed.
These would appear to be pretty good match-ups for Rags and D-Will. If we could rely on Rags and D-Will at the point that would free up Toure to help David, Graham and Ben with E-ville's two double digit scorers 6'5" So. Colt Ryan (17.2 PPG) who is hitting 51% of his 3-point attemtps and 6'6", 185 lb. Jr. Kenneth Harris (11.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG). Harris is a Juco transfer. Also, Denver Holmes a 6'4" Jr. is averaging 6.7 PPG.
Evansville size is pretty much limited to 6'10", 255 lb. Sr. Pieter van Tongeren (7.1 PPG, 3.0 RPG) and Clint Hopf (7.8 PPG, 2.5 RPG). These two are only averaging about 17 MPG each so it appears that van Tongeren starts and is backed up Hopf. They do have another 6'8", 240 lb. post player, Jr. Matt Peeler who is also a Juco transfer. The only significant minutes he has played in the last 6 games was 8 minutes in E-ville's 76-49 loss to North Carolina.
I would sure love to see the Shocks come out and impose their will in this team and make a statement to open up MVC play.
"Sometimes he drives it and he looks like he's timid and a facilitator out there, as opposed to a guy who can be a threat," Marshall said. "I asked him the other day, 'When are you going to assert yourself? When are you going to stop playing in a passive and timid way?' He kind of looked at me like I had three eyes."
67-62 Shocks
i predict alot of bad calls (coming from someone who thinks almost every game thus far, save for the UCONN game, has had solid officiating)
Every year I predict a blow out win and it never seems to happen.
Shox - 68
Evansville - 64
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
