  • WSU VERSUS EVANSVILLE PREDICTIONS AND PREGAME DISCUSSION

Here's the deal. When you come to play some poker at 21st and Hillside, and bet on 4 Purple Aces, you better warm up the bus for home. That hand will not fly because our beloved Shocks will go from Rags to Riches by drawing a "Royal Shocker Flush", right down the Hatch. Hence, the Shocks will have no match up issues and win by 21.

Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

They have no answer for Garrett even though they seem to play us tough.

Conference title contender vs. wannabe Thursday night deluxe. This one shouldn't be close.

If the Shocks have any memories from last year and actually care about their embarrassment from last year, they will pounce on these fools for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and some midnight snack.

The Aces are a guard-oriented team. Not a great rebounding team. Assist-TO ratio is 1-1. They do shoot well from the field, 47%/40%.

Because we are deep at the 3 guard positions, the matchups are definately in our favor. I want to see us guard effectively the other teams stud, in this case Ryan. My guess is that Kyles will draw the initial assignment. Because Ryan is the shooter (47%/51%), the Aces will run more screens for him than Sony, Samsung & Toshiba put together.

We should dominate in the post. This poses a potentially good matchup for Garrett. I don't anticipate him starting, but whether he matches up with 6-10 van Tongeren or the 6-8 Hopf coming off the bench, Garrett should get his chances.

After two very close games in a row, I would really prefer not to have this one go down to the wire again. We should win with ease, but EU has been playing us tough as of late.

                    WSU - 79
                    EU - 65

76-64 WSU. We call off the dogs with about 3 minutes left and EU drains a few 3's making it look closer than it was.

The key to this game will be our ability (or lack thereof) to play defense WITHOUT fouling.

RDR's combined fouls and turnovers will be telling I think.

Evansville takes good shots (reflected in their high %) and gets to the FT line a lot. They will be aggressive with the basketball.

If we are lazy and sit back, it will be a purple parade to the charity stripe and a potentially awful day for the Shocks.

If we are the aggressors, then the game should take care of itself.

I have commented on more than one occasion that I was concerned about the chemistry of this team and whether or not they had the intangibles to win at a level that we all hope to......I still worry about that, but I am starting to see some of the little things I look for in a champions attitude.

We'll see if those trends continue Wednesday night.
