It's easy to lose sight of "the reason for the season". We focus on what gifts we purchase, where we are traveling and what parties we are going to attend.
We also focus on wins and losses and what a group of 17-25 year olds aren't doing to reach the heights that we as fans think they should be achieving.
Soon enough we'll return to our discussion of how many wins it will take to secure a hopefully unneeded at large bid, why we struggle with a crappy Evansville team and how in the heck does UNI continue to succeed with no support.
But for today, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, let us take a breath and realize what is important in our lives, whatever that may be and as we think about those around us, let us be thankful that we our fortunate enough to have young men like Garrett Stutz part of our program.
I could not be happier that Garrett is on the way back and hopefully over whatever was bothering him. I realized it's overused, but when referring to Garrett, it is an understatement to call him a great kid. There just aren't 20 year olds with his combination of intelligence, maturity, faith, dedication etc......that he happens to be a pretty darned good basketball player is just a bonus.
Whether or not he scores another basket will have no bearing on his future success. Garrett will be successful.
This Christmas, I am thankful for a lot of things....A loving wife that treats me far better than I deserve....a smart and beautiful daughter than loves me no matter how demanding I am of her....a healthy family and a father on the mend from surgery. I am a very lucky person....and today I am thankful to see one of the best kids I've ever known get through a rough patch and enjoy what he does.
Merry Christmas to you all!
