Shutting down their outside shooting appears to be the key. Not an easy task. I was able to watch the Indiana game and they had virtually no inside game. Look for Stutz, Durley, Ellis, and Blair to clean house when we play them.

Also look for at least two of their guards to have 'career days' against us.

Last week was a good one for Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball.

We haven't been able to say that much this season, so let's give the Valley credit. MVC schools went 12-1 last week. They closed out the pre-Christmas schedule with a 26-5 burst.

It's probably too little, too late. A few name wins in December can't erase damage done previously.

Northern Iowa did the most good for the Valley's pride by defeating Indiana and New Mexico in Las Vegas. Beating Indiana means a whole lot less than it used to; New Mexico was picked third in the Mountain West Conference. If nothing else, the Panthers showed they're not going to slip out of sight after winning back-to-back MVC titles. Wichita State slipped past LSU — and promptly watched LSU lose by 20 points at home to North Texas.

I see us maybe going 15-3 in conference. Beating UNI or Creighton at their place might be kind of tough, plus I am allowing for another road loss.

The road is certainly where the story will be told for our Shockers. I like the fact that our first two games away from CKA are against teams we absolutely should beat, Bradley & ISU-red. If we can establish our will to win on foreign ground the first two times, then perhaps winning at CU, UNI & MSU will feel like a habit when putting on the dark jerseys.

Snapshot9 if you are saying 15-3 and I predicted, 14-4, then I hope you being the realist, are the more accurate one. I was thinking we will lose 1 at home and 3 on the road. Yes, we might just do better than the eternal optimist you speak of predicts.

If we could be feared like 'Darth Vader' on the road...I would take that. :D

I heard they hold us alot on D. always grabbing and pulling. I guess they get away with it.
And their offense is uncommon enough that alot of practice is needed to be prepared for it.

I believe coach said everybody was due back for a practice tonight. 3 days to prepare.

This is worth repeating. Colt Ryan, their scoring leader is playing a lot of PF at 6'5". 53 of his 113 FG attempts have been 3's and he takes about 1/3 of UE's total attempts from 3.

As near as I can figure, UE plays their PF as if he's a SG. If Ellis and Blair can keep up with Ryan and not have quickness issues, they're going to be out of rebounding position and out of a good box-out spot a lot of the time.

On the other hand, if Blair and Ellis can play D against Ryan, they're a monster matchup problem for him when WSU has the ball.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Sorry...there is no witchcraft or voodo when it comes to Evansville. They don't grab and pull any more than anybody else. There is not a clause in the officiating manual that lets Evansville grab & pull more than anybody else. I also don't think Marty Simmons is the second coming of his mentor Bobby Knight to the degree their offense is so uncommon HCGM needs more time to prepare for them than any one else.

The bottom line is WSU didn't play well against the Aces twice last year. In the first game the Aces made 50% of their shots, WSU 40%; Aces shot 40% from 3, WSU 22%; WSU was outrebounded 25-30 and commited 19 turnovers. Ellis fouled out, Durley, Hannah & Blair each had 4 fouls and limited their on-court time. Evansville scored 10 more points from the FT line.

In Wichita, the Shockers won by 6 in OT. Up to OT the Shockers didn't shoot well from the field or the line (around 60%), EU made 19-22 and EU outrebounded the Shockers.

Enough with the Evansville mystery. We picked a couple of games to underperform, while the Aces played well. It should not have happened, but no need for Dr. Phil.
