  • MVC Projections after Non Con

There hasn't been a whole lot (other than the Shocks) to get excited about. Here's my prediction:

    1. Shocks
    2. UNI
    3. sCUm
    4. MSU
    5 Indiana State
    6 Ill State
    7 SIU
    8 Evansville
    9 Bradley
    10 Drake

WSU should win the league going away (by 2 or 3 games). We will be favored in every game but we need to realize that we are going to take everyone's best shot. Beating us would be a season maker for most of the Valley. The Shocks are probably the most hated team in the Valley now that OOC is over. The guys need to start playing with a chip on their shoulder. :-x

I think 2 - 4 could finish in any order. 5 - 8 is also a toss up. Bradley and Drake well.....

Haven't seen UNI play but I think they will surprise alot of people this year. They are young and pretty good. I still remember last year at the Lou when they put their underclassmen in and they actually looked better than their starting five. I still think we will at least split with them....hopefully sweep.

I watched CU vs Idaho Potato State and got to see GodEnriqueGod. He's big but has a lot of rust to shake off. He looked lost at times and didn't hustle. Reminded me of Durley his freshman yr. but I think they have enough to handle most of the other teams beside WSU. Idaho was not good and sCUm couldnt' pull away. We should handle them at home and in Omaha

I don't pretend to be an expert but I do follow MSU because I live here. Here's what they look like from my view. I picked MSU 4th mostly because they just don't have enough depth. They really only go 5 deep. Yes, they return most of their firepower from last years 7th place (play in) team but I don't think that makes you an automatic for the top half of the league. Weems is an absolute stud. The rest are average or below MVC players. Patterson and Rhine are their first two off the bench and neither one would sniff the court for the Shocks. After that it's 3 freshmen who are good freshmen but have a ways to go. MSU doesn't play well on the road and could finish below or at .500 in league play. I am rooting for them to finish 2nd but I don't drink maroon koolaid.

ISU (blue) might be the surprise of the league. I think they have a coach that really wants to be there.

ISU (red) is playing their usual poor schedule so it's hard to say but they lost too much last year to be too good.

SIU...they can't be as bad as the teams below them can they ???

Evansville gets the 8th place nod just because of their win over Butler. That was impressive and shows they can beat anyone at anytime. I just hope it's not us.

Bradley has too many injuries to expect them to finish much higher plus they have the disadvantage of having Jim Les as coach

Drake...well some one has to bring up the rear.

Just my .02 cents. As long as the Shocks finish 1st I really don't care about the rest.

    What say you ?

    What say I?

    I wholeheartedly agree.

As long as WSU finishes 1st, I couldn't care less about the order behind us.

No qualms, still predict 15-3...protect CKA...no stupid losses & hopefully role through STL.

        WSU
        MSU
        CU
        UNI
        Ind. St.
        Ill. St.
        Drake
        SIU
        Evansville
        Bradley

Bradley lost too much. Drake is young and will get better. They are my "suprise" team. I still don't think UNI is very good.

WSU is number 1 in my book. There is a drop off and then MSU and CU, and I think UNI finishes deep in 4th, but there is another drop off after that. The bottom 6 could finish in any order. The bottom 6 aren't as awful as we've all been saying this year, so they pose a danger, but...

This could be a situation where you can't see the forest for the trees. You may be so close to them that you see the negatives and get bogged down in them.

Having a stud, with a decent supporting cast around him can go far (UConn). Back that up with a good coach and they are dangerous. If there is a second at-large looming out there in the Valley, I think it's MSU this year.

I am still predicting a 1st place finish at 14-4. I think we will stub our toe at home, but only once. The other 3 losses will be on the road which will be a nice improvement for us. Yes, we are fully capable of doing better. Even so, by Valley time, the whole world will know most everything they need to know to try and stop us. The beauty of it all is that we are deep enough and experienced enough that we really don't care what they know. I think that Mo State, Creighton, and N. Iowa will be the other top teams, maybe in the exact order behind us that I listed.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I don't really disagree with what you are saying. Zo and the Bears just haven't proven anything with a last place ('09) and seventh place finish last year. I guess since I've lived here for 7 years now I've adopted the "show me" thing.

I really do hope they prove me wrong and finish 2nd. There is nothing I'd like to see more than our Shocks come in to SGF for the last game of the regular season and rip their hearts out.

                1. SHOCKERS
                2. UNI
                3. MO ST
                4. CU

After that is a pickem and it doesn't really matter.

I think your pretty much on target moshock.

Shocks go 15-3 or better and win by at least 2 games.

A Bracket Buster win puts us at 25-5 going into the MVC Tournament.

We may still have to win the MVC Tournament. It's tough to project the 13th ranked conference getting more than one bid.

We'll have an RPI in the 20s if that happens. We'll get in.

I hope your right. Not sure how much we can improve our RPI when the rest of the league has an average RPI of around 180. We better make sure we limit our losses to the teams that finish in the Top half of the league.

Joe Lunardi, the espn guru of bracketology is currently projecting that the 14th ranked conference will get 2 bids (WCC- Gonzaga and St. Marys).

                          So it is possible.

If we only lose 3 or 4 games from here on out, as long as the losses aren't to the likes of E-vomit, Drake or similar, we will get invited to the prom. Of course I'm talking if we don't win on March 6.

Probably not for the last time this year: "Teams get into the tournament, 1972, not conferences." Last year the Horizon was ranked 12th in RPI (Warren Nolan), but does anyone doubt that Butler would have been in even if they had stumbled in the conference tournament? Similarly, the WCAC ranked 14th, and Gonzaga did stumble in their tournament. But their RPI ranked 33rd and they were in.

If WSU takes care of business in league play and avoids a complete flame-out in St. Louis, they'll be in the NCAA tournament whether they have an automatic spot or an at-large. Book it, Dano.
