Overall David had a very good game. His passing and rebounding was instrumental in the first half run. His two threes in the second half were big time and I think his overall defense was good.

My buddy continues to tell me he can't possibly be shooting enough since he is above 50% for the year...

No offense, but it is fortunate your buddy isn't coach Marshall. He can't continue to shoot over 50% taking the shots he is taking. He is such a great talent, but even great talent can't keep chucking up long, fade away jumpers. Almost 70% of his shots are from 3. Yes, a SG, especially one that has a great stroke as Kyles does, will shoot a fair share of 3's.

In addition to having a great shot, he possesses speed, quickness, & decent handles. With this kind of ability he must take his game to the next level and get to the basket. Last night against LSU marked only the 3rd time in 10 games he has even attempted a free throw. Are you kidding me. He should get there 6-8 times a game. There aren't even a small handful of players wearing another jersey that can hang with Kyles. Why isn't the coaching staff and why isn't Kyles on his own exploiting that. He should shoot alot of 3's, but 70% is rediculous.

No doubt that stopping or slowing down DK has become a key focus of opposing defenses in their game planning.

David needs some of his teammates to step up and take some of the heat off.

I think DK will still have those nights when he will go off like LSU's Turner did in last night's game.

Anybody remember last year when he would NEVER take the 3, but always fake and drive to the hole?

Is that why about 40% of his shots last year were 3's (about 40% more than never). I certainly don't think of myself as a basketball expert, however when a player is characterized as "driving to the hole," I would expect more than averaging 1 FT per game. So the long-winded answer to your question is No, I don't remember. Sorry.

Honestly, I really thought next Season would be the 'breaking out Season' for DK. Even though he was not a starter last Season, it hurt us when he went out with his injury towards the end of our Season. Did any of you even consider in your wildest imaginations that Mr. Kyles would be such a positive catalyst for us this Season thus far? Not I!!! Last night, DK had 13 points, 7 bounds, and a crucial 3 that if missed, would have given us all some transcendental lamentings. Nope, not a bad night at the office for David Kyles. I am sure glad DK did not wait until next year to help lead this team, or this Season would not be as good as it has been, nor as good as it is going to be. Can u dig on that? Groovy!!!

I am truly a DK fan, but to put him in the category of a leader at this point is premature. His work on defense and rebounding has certainly improved, although he still goes Randy Moss from time-to-time...that needs to dissipate a bit. He had a great, quick start in the first 7 games where he shot well over 60% from everywhere. However in his last 3 games Kyles is 6-22 overall, 5-15 from 3 and has shot only 4 FT's. For him to be a leader he must recognize he can't keep chucking up 3's the majority of the time. He is too talented not to give his team a more balanced offensive effort. I'm not going to give him the label "one deminsional" yet, but if the trend continues he might get the label "streaky shooter." Once again, he possesses too much in his game to not exploit it, IMO.

Yep, high ceiling for the guy. Could be a 20 ppg scorer if he learns to drive. Remember, too that 4 free throws in his last 3 games is the same as he shot in the first 7. Now that his percentage has come back into the realm of reality, he absolutely needs to start driving the paint.

DK also drew a few more fouls than the ones that resulted with free throws.... Guys are fouling him as soon as he starts the drive...

Well give the guy a break, everyones tearing him down for a few bad games.
Hes been our star for the season so far either way.
Last night despite everyones bantering he scores 13 and makes a crucial 3 down the stretch.
Not to mention literally locking down and completely taking a guy that wouldnt miss a shot out of the game.
That was just amazing Defense in those last minutes or so.

                        ALSO...
                        TM is playing point guard.
That means that DK really needs to step up as a playmaker.
And he has really been able to fill in as a scorer...

                        BUT...
at the same time, TM slashes a lot as does GH....
Marshall wants us to be a team that takes open 3 pointers.
I dont mind TM and GH slashing and passing out to Kyles considering hes making over half of them, and most games has been lights out.

While I agree he hasnt had the best last 3 games, last night he saves us from a two posession hole with a giant 3 with a guy in his face...
Locks down a guy that wouldnt miss a shot.
And I feel overall played well.

If you watch that second half again.
                        Focus on the shocker D.
Those crazy 3s spare a few in the first few minutes were all very well defended by DK and other shox.

I think were missing some things cause all we are seeing is a blown 17 point lead.
If Turner wouldnt have been shooting so well and rediculously we would have been praising the shox for their defense.

Sometimes guys get in a zone and can't miss.
I don't think we played that poorly in the second half.
And we showed a lot of resolve down 4 with 37 ticks left...
and DK was a huge part of that.

I think if we are harping on anyone... in this game it should be Durley.
Especially his Lack of boxing out.
Some of his effort on Defense.

This is a huge win, more so than just keeping us from completely losing at large hopes. But character building.
This team is deeper and better than that sweet 16 team.
If you remember, we had a lot of OT wins and close calls that season that really built the character of that team.
So sure Garretts shot isnt quite as exciting as "THE SHOT."
But nonetheless great character building win.

                        Go Shox.
"Coach Marshall,We will be at Creighton at least 15 hours in advance!"
CGM--->"Hell yea, and we'll beat their ass."

Kyle's needs to work on dribbling with his left hand. Teams over play him to the right and I can tell he's not comfortable taking more than 4 or 5 dribbles with his left. I do think he's working on it because he is much better w/ his left than last year. Maybe he's currently capable of more but does not want to risk a turnover by pushing a developing skill too much during the game.

Kyles is a maker. He is our best shooter. He's going to anger a lot of opposing teams fans by his ability to knock down open, contested, fade away, step back, you name it shots.

But this is a thread about defense, and that's one of the part of his game I really liked towards the end of last year and so far this year. He has very quick feet and hands which allow him to disrupt the man he's guarding. He also has a quite a nose for rebounds when he wants to.

I really think the most improved part of his game is consistency this year. Even when he isn't making shots he is still contributing through defense, rebounding, looking for other team mates on offense.

Great year so far for Mr. Kyle's and the Shockers!

I won't say NEVER but I do remember he frustrated me quite a bit last year when he would repeatedly pass up wide open threes to drive nowhere or pass to a guarded teammate.

His defense was average at best, but otherwise he played a great game.
