Is Kyles not looking for his shot? Were Stutz's TO's balls that went off his hands? Did Rags play any 2? I couldn't attend, btw.

No. He was looking for his team more than hunting his shot - thus 4 assists. I'm hoping we don't find out he's hurt today. We couldn't tell whether it was his left wrist that was hurt or he had been hit in the grapes.

      Stutz had no turnovers

I don't think so. If it was it was not for any extended minutes.

          Last nights game

As long as I've been watching WSU men's basketball which goes back into the 50's, I've noticed that games can get very squirrely during finals week. Two of WSU's players actually showed up late to the start of pre-game practice because they had just finished taking finals. I know that this is a Jr, Sr dominated team, so perhaps that isn't as much of an excuse if they were a younger team. Toure Murry, the star of the game, said in his post game radio interview that he has one more final tomorrow.

Still, we don't want to see anymore of this kind of inconsistency the rest of the season, eh!

And 20 turnovers against a SWAC bottom feeder is very, very worrisome. Not to mention 12 of those came from two upperclassmen starters. Wow.
No doubt a good game from Graham tonight. He never stops working hard. When he gets an opportunity against a team with inferior talent, his effort really translates to performance. With Graham the question is: would you rather have 100% of "5" or 80% of "7?" I don't think we lose without him, but he was certainly important tonight.
You mean inferior opponents like UNI last year when we beat them? Make sure you read the first sentence of the second paragraph when they start listing the key players of the game. And don't forget to scroll down and see who the highest rebounds of the game, on your right (yes, he out-rebounded Eglseder):

Yup, definitely a guy we only want in against inferior opponents.

I think Graham would compare favorably to the talent and athleticism on last year's UNI team. I am not surprised he had a good game against them.

So what did the more superior talent on our team do against a 345-rated RPI team yesterday? 2 superior talented players coughed up the ball 12 times between them against a SWAC bottom feeder.

You may have mentioned it already but who should start in place of Hatch again?

                Thanks.

Hatch had his best game of the year. That's what I'd like to see out of him all the time. He stayed under control, shot more 3 pointers and didn't get into foul trouble. If he could do those things every game, it makes him all that more valuable to the team.

Hatch isn't going to average 15 a game. If he can average 7 or 8 and continue to play D, rebound and scrap he's doing what needs to be done.

Our leading scorer will probably be in the 12-14 PPG range.

I think its fair to say we got 30% out of our 7s last night and probably close to 100% out of our 5(Hatch). If Ragland can play point then I like Kyles at the 3. If not then Smith. Coach needs to figure how to get more out of his sevens. That is why he gets the big bucks.

Part of the way those that get paid the big bucks get more out of your more athletically gifted players is by giving playing time to anyone who will put out the effort and do the things the coach wants. You may think that if a more athletically gifted player played like Hatch, it would be better to start him. But until a more athletically gifted player actually does play like Hatch, he should and will get the minutes.

It is all too easy for super talented athletes to coast on their natural ability and be outperformed by guys will less raw talent, but more work ethic and coach-ability. Telling a talented guy that playing time is doled out on the basis of talent rather than working hard and doing what the coach says only encourages coasting.

There are a couple of recent examples of what happens when athletic and talented players who dog it in practice and don't do what the coach asks get PT.

Example 1: P'Allen Stinnett. CU nearly had a player revolt because "different rules seemed to apply to different people".

Example 2: SIU. They had something like the 20th-rated recruiting class in the nation, but they were all hot shots who didn't want to get dirty, play hard D, or do other things that don't show on the scoreboard. A rercuiting class of 4 very talented and athletic players took a pretty good program from annual NCAA team to the abyss of the MVC cellar.

Great athleticism helps get PT, but hard work, discipline, and doing what the coach wants done is a major part of the formula. Those who earn PT get it. Those with great athleticism and talnet have to earn their time or teams self-destruct. Chris Lowery is learning that lesson the hard way - and it's probably going to cost him his coaching career.
