  • WSU 2010-11 - The Pretty Boy Team

I saw it last night on KWCH coverage of Marshall press conference yesterday and Shockwaves also picked up the story.

Marshall used Coach Izzo comments in a comparison of his team

“We’ve turned into a pretty-boy, jump-shooting team instead of a blue-collar, fist-fighting team,” he said “That was as about as disappointing a performance as we’ve had in a long time.”

Expect playing time to decrease for a couple and increase for two others.

Pay close attention to Friday's game for the answer.

    That is all. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

I'll take a stab at it:

      More PT: Ellis & Smith
      Less PT: Stutz & Hatch

I know we have some Hatch lovers here, but the guy has got to start getting more offensive production. For as good as he shoots it, he needs to put up more shots from the 3 and stop driving uncontrallably into the trees. Stutz has turned into butterfingers this year. Not sure how a guy that big can't hold onto a basketball. OK, I'm ready to get slammed for badmouthing Hatch.

I'll go the other way Dan on Hatch and Stutz. Hatch will probably get more PT to guard NSU's stud. Hatch did an excellent job shutting down baby Cooz. And if history repeats Stutz usually has double figures against smaller teams.

Not sure if that goes with the quote, but Marshall has said he plays to win each game, not for down the road. I think Hatch and Stutz will be key components against NSU.

Stutz has already lost a lot of PT. I would say JT would be one. Here's a guy who isn't rebounding and it seems most of his shots are coming from outside. He's not playing physical on either end.

I still don't know how you take the hardest worker off the court in Hatch. He's not going to jack up a lot of shots, but he's about the only one who will sacrifice his body for a loose ball or rebound.

More of Smith wouldn't be a bad thing though

            Less: Stutz and Durley
            More: Smith and Ellis

I would say Ellis and Orukpe if our next opponent had anyone over 6'6".

I'd be shocked not to see alot of Hatch...

We'll see how Durley reacts. Not sure who was at fault for the rest of the points in the paint against SDSU...Ellis, Stutz, Blair? I don't imagine EO or Hamilton is the answer, but I haven't seen them practice.

I would like to see more Smith, but I haven't noticed outstanding D from him.

We are tlaking about effort and toughness...Hatch is the last man to sit.

If this occurs the less will be from the two mentioned by PS, Durley and Stutz. The more from Blair and EO.

Coach has always said Durley is more of a 'tough love' type guy. He doesn't respond to nice requests well. So, to me you'll probably see less playing time from Durley, which is too bad because his offense overall has been good--much better than Stutz, but his defense and rebounding are still too soft.

I would also expect Stutz to sit more--come off the bench. Aaron, Graham and David Kyles will definitely NOT lose any time. Toure is our best option at the point right now, so I don't expect him to sit much.

Does this mean we start: Murry/Kyles/Hatch/Ellis/Blair? I'm ok with that lineup right nw.

Because of the match-ups against shorter, quicker post players than are running around Princeton style, we'll see less of Stutz and Durley.

I'm with Doc - sitting Hatch is not the way to go. Out of 13 guys on our roster who generally get some playing time, eight of them are over 6'4" which is what Hatch is. Yet I believe Hatch is our leading rebounder. What the #$%%. Love Hatch and his energy, but come on now. No way should he be leading this team in rebounds.

Perhaps Marshall needs to look in the mirror. The players are doing what he allows them to. Perhaps if he were to spend his time on the sidelines making adjustments to the team/game instead of his cuff links and watch, then his players would perform and he wouldn’t need to call them out in the media.
