Stutz was just 1-4 shooting tonight.
My favorite plays of the game came from the bench:
    1) A chicago player fell into WSU's bench in the 2nd half. He kind of lingered & Hatch pushed him away as if in disgust.
    2) The bench exploded on Hamilton's dunk.

I thought it was games like these that Stutz would be getting 20 and 10 in?

Can any of the Stutz Pumpers offer any explanations?

It's still early but he definitely doesn't look as sharp as he did in spots last year.

      ... No really, deuces.

        some highlights here:

WICHITA-Kan.- The Wichita State Shockers beat the Chicago State Cougars, 91-51, in front of a crowd of 10, 206 at Charles Koch Arena Wednesday night.

Has both Ellis' and Hamilton's dunks as well as Blair's dunk. I love the block by Kyles too.
Ellis' and Hamilton's throwdowns were from the "where the hell did those come from?" plays. Those were pretty sweet.

Not sure why Chicago State is attempting to play D-1 basketball. At best they are an average D-II team. Both Chaminade (by far) and Newman were much better opponents than Chicago State.

Not sure a whole lot was accomplished tonight other than getting some resreves some decent PT.

I'm a Stutz pumper and I am re-evaluating. He displayed some mobility and quickness in the pre-season, but once games started, it was back to the concrete tennies.

The only thing I can hope for is that maybe he starts each season slow. He's not 70% of the player he was at the end of the season last year.

He's not a liability, although a couple of quicker guys did beat him to the hoop tonight. The number of shots he missed from inside 2' just doesn't cut it.

In pre-season he was strong going to the hoop. In games he seems to back off and settle for more difficult shots. A contested shot from 2' isn't always a bunny. A stuff with a defender on your back is an easier shot.

Right now Stutz is playing himself into a lot of bench time Durley still isn't exactly effective on D - and Durley's effort on boards has been lacking.

What I thought was a huge strength for WSU has turned out to be less than that. Thank goodness for Kyles appearing to have a breakout year.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Painful memory - Chicago State beat WSU back in 84=>85 at Wichita.

As a person of shorter stature, I get real upset when a 7'r can't/won't get the ball over the hoop for at least a soft throw down. :banghead:

Am I wrong to think EO is starting to pass Garrett? Not completely because of EO's progress but in part because of Garrett's regression from the end of last season.

Yes. Garrett's having his problems and EO is soooo athletic (and fun to see what he might do next), but to say EO is a diamond in the rough is pretty close to saying he's "coal" as far as being basketball savvy. Don't get me wrong, EO is very athletic, intelligent, seems to work hard, and is able to make up for some of his short  comings with his effort and athleticisim. I also feel he may have a very quick learning curve. However, at this time, descent, experienced DI centers would probably get him on the bench fairly quickly with foul trouble.

Watching our 7 footer's play recently is disappointing to say the least. GS is showing zero signs of producing anything close to a breakout year, and EO might not have enough years eligibility left to produce one either.

Garret is making some nice passes, blocking a few shots, and rebounding. He hasn't been forceful enough scoring on the inside, but with Kyles, Murry, Hatch, & Durley putting it in the hole, he really hasn't needed to.

JT has been scoring, but really needs to board a lot more. He is an offensive machine, but he needs to remember there is more to the game than shooting.

EO is a work in progress...baby steps. Still, he grabs a few rebounds and blocks a shot or two almost everytime he plays. Give him a year.

It's early, really early...everything will be OK when it needs to be. :wsu_posters:

Gabe Blair has been impressive with his scoring, rebounding, and blocked shots given his limited minutes played. I would like to see his PT increased. Aaron has been better than I anticipated this year. While the box score still does nothing for him, his strong play has been more evident this year.

I was a big Stutz proponent, but he hasn't had a game where he has clicked yet. Still, having Stutz as the 4th big man is VERY DEEP. While it doesn't appear that he will dominate the Valley, there are about 9 other MVC teams that would absolutely LOVE to have him in their rotation.

And while we're on the topic of WSU big men, how about that dunk by Hamilton!!! Oh my! I was watching the highlights and almost missed it the first time I saw it. I totally expected the big man to stop and shoot an 8 footer over the defender or pass it to a streaking wing for the three. He owned that week ass defense!!! Freshman posterized that fool!! Also nice dunks from Ellis and Blair.

After 6 games you have decided that EO might not have enough time to develop? LOL Ok.....

Two huge problems with Garret seem to be 1) His hands - he is having a lot of trouble catching and finishing. He seemed to have that mostly solved near the end of last season, but early on this season he has had fumble-itis; 2) He is getting whistled for too many fouls. Whether it is on screens or bad/late box outs, he isn't in complete control of his body. This problem lingered most of last year but when he stayed out of foul trouble he was effective.

I guess the upside is that several of the teams the Shocks have played post matchups so far haven't been ideal for Garret. Small-ish and quicker 4/5 players give him fits. His post defense and rebound positioning are still ahead of EO, but EO's athleticism often makes up for his mistakes.

These are similar problems you see with a lot of young big men. Garret is now an upperclassman and needs to show some resolve to improve ASAP.
