During the coaches show tonight, HCGM stated that his goal for this game is to score 100 points and commit 20 turnovers or less.

Actually he said 19 turnovers or less. I'm also predicting a higher score after hearing the coach on the Coach's Show.

I like what I'm hearing. I would love to see us run non-stop. I don't think it's the best thing to do against good opponents, but I hope they can make it extremely fun to watch tomorrow.

As KCShox speaks of cupcakes, we could take a bad-trip down Shocker Memory Lane back in 84-85 Season with the X-Man on our team when Chicago State upset us 60-49. That was NOT supposed to happen but can happen when cupcakes are not taken seriously.

On a brighter note, the Shocks had less turnovers last game than our opponents. As we look at the 'RDR Rule' where we add our turnovers and fouls, wanting to have a total under 30, we only had 24 last game. I would like to see a big Shocker win Wed. which our MO (momentum) will carry us to a huge win Sat.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I'm going to disagree with pinstripers. I think we've seen the last of the 5 for 5 substitutions unless it's to send a message to the starters. I think we're going to see Marshall working on the last fine-tuning of the lineups and substitution patterns before SDSU.

I think the substitution patterns and 5 for 5 substitutions we've seen to this point have been experimental and done for evaluation purposes rather than game purposes. In the games where that's happened, Marshall had the luxury of being able to experiment. Now it's time to get ready for a ranked opponent on the road, so I think the substitution patterns will be game-related - at least until Marshall thinks he knows how he's going to handle subs against SDSU.

After that, we might see anything, since the opponent allows Marshall the luxury of experimenting. We might see some combinations Marshall wants to use, but those combinations need game experience playing together.

Shox by about 20. Marshall doesn't throw opponents under the bus.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

what combinations do you think he wants to see that he hasnt yet?

i agree with everything except the predicted margin of victory. wsu should win by about 30.

I think he's seen about every possible combination.

Some that haven't worked so far might be ones that Marshall feels he needs to be able to play throughout the season. We may see some odd substitutions to create combinations on the court that need time working together in game situations.

The 5 for 5 thing was to send a message last time, and will be again.

                      From today's Eagle:

Durley played 27 minutes against Virginia and 17 against UMKC without grabbing a rebound.
Here's a message that needs to be sent: JT hit the boards!

I just read that. There's no excuse for a guy like JT to go one game without a rebound. He's gone two? If he doesn't have 7 tonight I won't be happy. I want to see him fighting for every rebound possible tonight.

He is getting far more minutes at the 5 spot than at the 4, btw.

Playing Chicago State isn't worth giving them $80,000. There has got to be someone out there who is worthy of and willing to do a one and one. At least one of the cupcakes needs to be replaced. This game is barely worth putting up with Shockervision.

I can't argue that. I'd like to see us schedule a home and home with someone even if it isn't "sexy". Someone in the 100-150 range could work.

Based off of the end of last year, teams I wouldn't mind seeing in that category would be:

                              North Texas (104)
                              Troy (109)
Houston (110) I know the issues here
                              Southern Miss (113)
                              Duquesne (114)
                              Northwestern ? (116)
                              Oral Roberts (126)

There were a few more that would be possible I think. Having some of these schools located in places we recruit doesn't suck either. I left out some of the BcS teams as I know there are issues scheduling those.

In the 50-100 range (probably tougher to schedule...):
                              New Mexico State (51)
                              Dayton (54)
                              Murry State (57)
                              William and Mary (58)
                              VCU (66)
                              Marshall (67)
Tulsa (68) we got this one
                              Nevada (73)
                              Northeastern (75)
                              Charlotte (77)
                              La. Tech (78)
                              SLU (87)
                              Charleston (91)
                              Ohio (95)

Like I said, some of these names aren't "sexy" but they're quality programs that would help our RPI and many teams we feel we should beat. Winning on the road counts for more and having more potential RPI 100 wins is a good thing come selection time. Either for getting in or seeding.

I have way too much time today...

Top 50 non BcS teams it would be nice to schedule would be:

                                New Mexico (10) MWC/MVC
                                Butler (12)
                                Xavier (19)
                                Richmond (25)
                                ODU (27)
                                USU (30)
                                Siena (31)
                                St. Mary's (35)
                                Gonzaga (36)
                                UTEP (38)
                                UAB (45)
                                Kent St. (47)
                                UNLV (48) MWC/MVC

Again, some would be tougher to schedule than others and some of these programs in this post and the one above may have slipped or only had a small window. I haven't looked that far into it. But still, there appear to be a number of options out there and some of these schools that we may not normally think of doing a H/H with may very well accept. Heck, we may be able to offer some of them a 2/1 deal and it would benefit us and them both. If we can't get games with the "big boys" than I'd like to see us shoot for a few of these and a few less Alcorn/Chicago States.
