Wow, what, wsushox? Wow that the Shocks had a 32-1 run , or wow that our carping, bipolar, coaching genius posters were ready to jump off a building when UMKC got up eight a quarter of the way through the game even though WSU had just finished digging out of a hole twice as deep against what was almost surely a better opponent, away from home, last time out?

The Shocks rebounded poorly and shot free throws poorly, both signs of a team that had the mental sharpness of one that had recently flown back from Hawaii -- oh, wait, they had just recently flown back from Hawaii! -- and they faced an opponent led by a guy who was inspired and determined to do everything he could to show he belonged.

Despite all that, they won easily. This is why I've stopped reading in-game threads until the games are over when I'm unable to attend. Too many people in need of medication and quick to show it the moment they reach for a keyboard. I agree with a previous post -- give me an ugly 19-point win any time.

Enough of this foolishness. I'm moving on.

If the team doesn't act bipolar, the fans won't act bipolar. It's a two-way street.

      • I'm tired of the TM off the bench experiment. If we get off to one of these slow starts verse SD, we will be doomed.

Certain newer post players have clearly been coached to "show" the double team at the high post on the opposing guards. Trouble is they often overcommit and either get screened off or the guards simply drive around them to the hoop. There has to be help coming and that help is usually too late (a side effect of this is our propensity to commit fouls). Mixing in the newcomers with the more experienced players one or two at a time might help the new players see how the defense should execute.

I've wondered a lot about zone. I'm not sure in the case of teams like UMKC it would work very well, because they appeared to have two or three good jump shooters on the floor most of the time. Zone usually hurts rebounding, but with weak opponent post players, it doesn't hurt as much. If the opponent starts shooting mostly from the outside, the wings have to stay in to retrieve long rebounds, which slows the break a lot. It is a tricky balance, which HCGM only shows in brief spurts. One thing Mark Turgeon did really well was changing defenses to keep the opponents guessing.

          • I listened to Mike Kennedy in the parking lot afterwards. He was talking about a different game than the one I saw. He thought we played great.

Doomed? I like the word, "Doomed."

Lineup shake up should be over...Should be

                TM
                DK
                GH
                JT
                GS

I think JT should start to get him up and motivated but if coach wants AE to start I can't complain. Honestly Blair could easily start too...maybe a three game rotation :D
