  • Mid-Major Watch

Mark Adams takes an early-season look around the mid-major scene.

    5. Saturday: Wichita State at San Diego State -- These are two of the most intriguing teams from two of the best non-power six conferences. The Shockers had UConn beat in Maui, but a few bad calls and Kemba Walker shot down their upset hopes. Still, Gregg Marshall regrouped his troops and pounded Virginia. All San Diego State did recently was take down Gonzaga in Spokane and then travel to Ohio and win three games in three days. You've got to love this matchup.

Illinois State (5-1): Everyone in the Valley is talking Wichita State, and for good reason, but the Redbirds are a surprising 5-1. Coach Tim Jankovich lost the inside scoring and rebounding of Dinma Odiakosa and the dynamic offense of Osiris Eldridge from last season, but Jackie Carmichael is filling the scoring void nicely with 14.2 ppg. Although the schedule has been a bit soft, UNLV is the next foe for the Redbirds on Wednesday, so we'll get a good measure of this team very soon.

And about 2% of the nation and 5% of Wichita will have the opportunity to watch this game on their home TV. What a joke. I can't believe KN22 didn't pick this up as part of its package.

Yeah, I saw that, might be a trip to the bar for this one. Still, I'm surprised this one wasn't picked up as part of the local TV package, with it being probably the best non-con game we play outside of Maui.

Comments on a variety of subjects:

          Illinois State's schedule:
Although the schedule has been a bit soft
A bit soft? A marshmallow straight off the assembly line is a bit soft.
Illinois State's 5-1 record with a SoS of 337 earns them an RPI of 253.

          SDSU TV:
DirectTV only for the SDSU game? I guess now I know how the people with dishes feel about Shocker games being on cable only. I may have to surf some channels to see if any of them have Shocker nets.

          Calls in Maui:
ESPN is mentioning bad calls? That takes it to another level. When it's fans mentioning bad calls, that's always questionable. Fans always complain about calls. When the analysts who televised the game mention bad calls, that's a completely different matter. It's good to see that the conversation about calls in Maui is continuing as the season progresses.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

A few years ago an agreement was worked out to broacast it locally using the feed of those who controlled the rights. I don't remember the game sadly, but remember they did what they could to make sure we could see it here. Maybe MTN doesn't want to do that. Maybe nobody here tried. Whatever it is, I'll be watching online.

It was the Bracket Buster game against Northern Arizona.

Picture quality was horrible but you could make out important factors such as player number etc. Honestly it looked like Shockervision but an actual broadcast.

Id be all for it. Hopefully some one is streaming online and worst case scenario I buy there feed and tune out the announcers for Mike
