Watchman - Thank you, Mr. Obvious, for telling US that YOU think the Shox have problems if they lose to UMKC. How long did you have to study the game to arrive at such keen, insightful analysis? On this Thanksgiving Day, I am thankful that you grace us with your very presence on this board. How could we ever live another day with you?

I agree. The nightcreeper always provides excellent analysis with very good insight and one-of-a-kind knowledge.

I'm thankful WSU has his attention.

Well we've done at least one thing the 'Roos haven't done.....lost.

UMKC is 4-0 albeit against almost the worst schedule in the NCAAs.

They are led by P.J.'s brother, Jay, who is averaging more than 20 a game. Former Shocker Reggie Chamberlain is at about 9/game.

No stats jump right out at you, but they seem to be grinding their way to a decent start. I don't expect them to be a Top 100 team or anything, but to dismiss them would seem a mistake.

That being said, I started to see some different things from the team in Hawaii. When we concentrate and share the ball, we are a formidable team to say the least. We are starting to play with pace and really put pressure on teams, for extended periods.

There are a couple of trends I would like to see change. If they do, I think the team is going to be great. Not good, but great.

So far this season we are turning the ball over almost twice as often as our opponents. And we are pressing far more....If we are the team turning up the pressure, we have to reverse this trend.

Also, even with our depth, we still are fouling too much, especially in relation to the number of fouls we draw. We've fouled 13 more times than our opponents and they have made (59) ALMOST AS MANY FTs AS WE HAVE TAKEN (60). That's supposed to be the other way around for a good team. And we have the big guys.

We are 15th in the country in 3 point %. I think we are a good shooting team, and our bigs inside certainly help us to be able to take open shots, but this is a VERY high % and I don't think it will continue. We need to get the ball inside and take advantage of our size.

I really, REALLY liked this team's chemistry in Hawaii. I think we are off and running now. And I think we will plow UMKC on Monday.

This won't be close. We should crush these guys and if they hang with us and lose by less than 15 I will be pissed. There comes a time where we should dismiss any notion of a trap game with this team. Everyone is preaching experience with these guys so let's destroy them by 30+ as well we should.

Do you think K-Suck, K-Who, Duke etc., would think of this team as a trap game? Yeah, I just compared us to them when it comes to UMKC.

                    Good insight.

The nice, balmy, warm "gold" in me loves what happened in Hawaii too! I love where this team is headed!

The bitter, callous, cold "black" in me loves beating undefeated teams when they come to the Chuck (ala undefeated 9 and Ut-Oh Texas Tech #16 last year).

If we lose this game just go ahead and commit me to the funny farm.

I'm back from my turkey, ham coma...for some reason, HCGM just isn't that "let's bury the opponent" kind of coach. When he feels the dagger has been delivered, coach will experiment with new lineups, schemes, and put the Derek Brown's in, which always results in lost opportunities. I would be surprised at a more than 22 point win because of it.

I agree with you about foul frequency, but I would toss out the UConn game stats in the analysis. Hopefully, it is an anomaly.

Somewhat of an anomaly, given the officiating, but we still will have more fouls called on us than any opponent with guards that are halfway decent at driving the ball.

The Good Doc is 'spot on' about the Shocks committing too many turnovers and fouls. It seems like so far, we are lethargic out of the gate too much as well. The Virginia slow start was the worst, but yet we still did not self-destruct and found a way to win. That was a great sign of encouagement but I do NOT like these slow starts

We have to improve stopping dribble-penetration as well chronicled on here. Let's add to that the need of us on offense to execute better dribble penetration as well. Kyles, Toure', and Buggs are showing flashes of this, but this area needs to and will improve.

Next, I want to see this team develop a killer instinct. We had UConn down by 9 in the 2nd half and that is all I want to say about that. I still say we go 10 players deep-- strong. I hope we play good versus the Roo's so EO can get some quality minutes. I think he can be a solid rebounder and swat some shots this very Season which will help our bottom line of winning games.

Durley and Kyles emerged in Hawaii in consistent fashion. Rags started settling in better at the point. DWill will get his ball handling woes shored up. Ben Smith not only can score but is scrapping for the bounds. Hatch will find his shot but does other things well that we also need. Gabe will have a very nice Season for us and Stutz will emerge as well.

It will be of interest to see whom are the starters are next game. However, starters in Marshall's line-ups are not always in the top 5 in minutes played during various games. I really like our quality depth and the various combinations we have available are mind-boggling for all kinds of match-ups we will be sure to face.

Sooo, now is the time to prove we can win on the road even though everybody will be gearing up and pumped up to defeat us. Chamberlin and Jay may be very compelled to rain on our Shocker parade. However, look for us to win this game 77-65.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
