The Official WSU vs. UCONN Game Thread - Maui Style
Yes, indeed our Shocks are not stopping dribble penetration or getting much help as they flew by us. This happened even versus Newman. We had them down by 9 but did not finish. Things like bank-shot 3's, late whistles, quick whisles, multiple whistles, (43 throws for them), and not having an answer for Walker led to our demise. Both halves, we got a decent lead and allowed them to come back both times. Adversity is what Coach Marshall just called it and there was plenty of it.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
Team should have overcame. They didn't. I'm pissed.
However, with the way the Valley seems to be playing so far...this WSU team would roll over the whole damn conference right now. Good thing too, cause it may be the only way this team gets to the NCAA tourney with the way the Valley has been performing.

We had an answer for walker -- the refs just didn't like it and so they would make late calls and reversals.
They drove the ball inside while we didn't, so logically we'll have a lot more fouls than them. That sounds good until you actually see what was called.. some of them in the second half were just awful. Maybe if we had better defense against penetration, those calls wouldn't have been allowed to happen, but who knows.
I really think we are the most physical team on the floor. We aren't getting pushed around by anyone this year.
Excellent point.
Again, shooting aside, I think we look fantastic.
I see what you mean about Walker. There is noone on the team that is fast enough to guard him IMO. Thats just me.
I think I know what you were getting at here......thoughts?
There aren't many in the country that are going to be able to contain him. He's a hot lottery pick and that's all there is to it.
He is hands down the best guard (perhaps player) that WSU will face during the regular season this year.

Great effort by the Shockers, but the refs were UCONN homers.
1. Blocking call on Durley at 13 minute mark in 2nd half should have been charging on Kemba Walker. That would have been Walker's 4th foul, and he would have been on the bench most of the rest of the half. It was a clear charging foul. Durley was set. He was not moving. The refs just didn't want to call a 4th foul on UCONN's star player with 13 minutes left in the 2nd half, after he sat out most of the first half with 2 fouls.
2. Foul call on Gabe Blair at 5 minute mark in 2nd half was not a foul. Blair got all ball. We got the ball and were looking to go up the court. Instead, it's a foul call and Walker gets his two free throws.
3. Reversal of out of bounds call at 5 minute mark in 2nd half. It was initially called in our favor, then reversed to UCONN. Hmm. Wonder why.
Bottom line, we would have won the game with fair officiating. Our guys played great. They hit shots when we needed them. Durley taking the charge on Walker at the 13 minute mark was a good play and it should have been called. That one's on the refs. We got hosed.
Couldn't have said it better myself.
+1
The charge call was outside the circle, JT waited as long as a person can possibly wait....it was brutal. 4 fouls and it's a total different game.
Well, I guess now that we've got the biggest game of the season out of the way....we can settle down and just play.
Prepare to hear how the best team in the valley isn't capable of beating the worst team in the Big East.
I still think UConn may be this year's Pitt. Pitt was supposed to be horrible last year and ended up being pretty decent if I remember right. I think UConn COULD end up like that. Walker is definately the man on that team, but there are a couple players with pretty high potential on that team.
Regardless we needed that win and pissed that chance away.

I hate blaming the refs, I really do. But I felt our guys just played well today.. it sucks to lose that one, and it especially sucks to know that a few right calls would have completely changed the game.
