  • WSU VERSUS UCONN PREDICTIONS

Here's the deal. There comes a time to `step out of the box` and win such tough games as this one. This win will have to be earned and will be an all out fight to the final buzzer. Bugs feeds the assist to Hatch-back behind the arc for a 3 at the buzzer that is nothing but net. EO leads the team with 7 bounds, and makes 3 blocks, 2 dunks, and 2 throws for good measure.

    WSU----~~```~68

    UConn---~~~~65
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Talk about youth...UConn has only 1 JR/SR that plays more than 13 minutes a game (Walker). Everybody else is a FR/SO. Walker averages over 35 minutes per game. I hope we can run multiple defenders at him. That gym will be small, hot & humid. Depth wins out...WSU wins!!!

This one scares me. There's too much riding on this game, and it's early in the season for a game of this magnitude.

It's WAY more important to WSU than to UConn, which, early in the season, could easily leave WSU playing tight and getting down a little too far before they get into the flow of the game and play the way they can.

Then there are the distractions of being in Hawaii. This game should be close enough that the team that can block out where they are might win the game.

I'm going to go with Marshall being able to prepare the team and Stutz and Hatch being able to keep the rest of the team focused on the purpose of the trip. I don't mean to slight the other players, but Stutz and Hatch seem to be the likely leaders of this year's team. Hatch by example, hard work, and maturity - and Stutz by his on-court presence.

      WSU - 72
      UConn - 67
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Truer words have rarely, if ever, been spoken. This team and this staff have been preparing for this game for months.

They know the importance of this game, not just for the tournament, but the season and even beyond.

We either make a statement on the national stage, or we flop. There is no in between, at least for those outside the program.

I felt good about this before the season started. Now, I'm just not sure. Maybe I just had a very bad day...but I may have to go against the Shox on this one. Don't get me wrong, the Shox will still be the team to beat by the time conference play rolls around. I just wish they would have had more games to work out the point guard situation. Also, TX Southern's quickness and athleticism gave us fits at times and UConn will be even quicker and more athletic yet. I'm hoping experience wins out, but I just don't know if I can predict that. If I am going to give a very honest prediction I am gonna go with:

              Shox - 68
              UConn - 72

Hope I'm wrong and the boys give me a reason to be even more confident going forward!

Oh and this does NOT change the fact I am taking off work so I can lose my voice trying to cheer the Shox to victory (even if they can't hear me through the TV!)

              GO SHOX!

                Shox -- 75
                Huskies -- 72

The opportunity lies in front of them. It's going to be a blast to see if they take advantage of it.

This game is a tough call because UConn has talent but it is so young. We should try to send a message early. While UConn won’t lack confidence coming in if WSU can frustrate them they may lose some composure. If WSU allows UConn to get into a rhythm – then look out – the young kids on that squad won’t look back.

I think you are going to see a lot of people defending this Walker kid – starting with Murry and Kyles. In terms of physical attributes Kyles is probably best suited for this task but Murry probably has the edge in fundamentals. I also think Ragland will get a shot – although, while he seems quick, I have not seen enough of him to get a handle on his defensive prowess.

I expect a tight game – within 10 pts and I hope experience carries the day.

UCONN players spend more time studying for Michigan State, despite Coach Calhoun's warning, and Wichita State opens a HUGE can of whoop-ass on the shell-SHOCKED Huskies, and makes even the BCS media take notice:

                          Huskies. 24-30-- 54
                          Shocks. 41-32-- 73
