It this a characteristic inherent in the rating formula or an indication of a FANTASTIC coaching job by Marshall? The All-games rating for the team is .500 (which is an A-, according to the original post) but not a single individual's rating is that high. So is the coach getting more than the "sum of the parts" (I know, btw, that you don't add percentages)?

Maybe it really does mean that defense is an important part of basketball also and the Prouty just undervalues that part of the game.

Looking at the composite stats a slightly different way. btw, Murry's stats are spearated into two lines in the goshockers.com official stats due to spelling Toure'.

The columns to the right of the bold line in the middle are R-O%, the percentage of the player's rebounds that are offensive rebounds; followed by defensive rebound percentage; then the remaining are converted to average for forty minutes played.

Note Hatch and Smith on the rebound percentage. Kyles is also a surprise that he isn't more effective on the offensive glass.

The Bigs, Stutz, Blair and Ehimen, need to cut down their fouls so they can play more. It appears Stutz is making some progress.

Every player above Williams in the tavle has assists greater ot equal to turnovers. Very impresive for the interior guys to have 1:1 ratios or better.

The points-40 illustrates the depth we enjoy, We have 6 guys with 15+ and another 6 between 10 and 15.

Would be interest in hearing what others might see in these numbers.[/img]

Generally, those are good looking numbers, im4wsu. Speaking in reference of the first 10 players listed, I'm particularly pleased to see that we have 5 at or above 80% FT and 2 more above 70%. That can come in handy in a late game crunch. So far, no one has had to average over 26.6 minutes per game, so when a player has to go 30+ minutes in a tougher game, he gets his rest in the others. On the down side, the steals look like they might be a little disappointing.

As for individuals, I was a little surprised at Ben's number per 40 minutes. 5th in scoring, 3rd in assists with a good T/A ratio, low on fouls, but coming up short in rebounding.

I don't what causes the TEAM rating to be higher. Maybe since winning is 1/4 of the rating, it's enough to do that.

Here are some previous games showing the highest player rating and TEAM rating.

                        WSU vs Nicholls State
                        Code:
                        Kyles 0.506
                        TEAM 0.488
                        WSU vs Alabama A&M
                        Code:
                        Kyles 0.496
                        TEAM 0.495
Highest player rating drops and TEAM rating rises after the Alabama A&M game.

                        WSU vs LSU
                        Code:
                        Kyles 0.489
                        TEAM 0.494
Highest player rating drops and TEAM rating drops slightly. TEAM rating is now higher than highest player rating after the LSU game.

                        WSU vs Tulsa
                        Code:
                        Kyles 0.499
                        TEAM 0.500
Highest player rating rises and TEAM rating rises. TEAM rating is still higher than highest player rating after the Tulsa game.

I looked at the ratings last year and there are also some games where the TEAM rating is higher than any player rating.

1979Shocker, could it have to do with the "Win Rating" part due to how minutes are calculated for the team vs an individual?

I'll be adding some charts showing the player's ratings later today.

I'll only be adding those with significant playing time.

I'm such a fan of looking at a per 40 minute game in regard to stats, because it tells how effective a player is while on the floor. Great job im4wsu...kudos. The reason Kyles has such a low offensive rebound % is because as a SG he is typically out on the floor further than most players. And since Kyles looks for the 3 more than anybody, he will be out of position to get O rebounds. Hatch on the other hand has just a nose for the ball, which we all know. His O rebound % is the most impressive, which isn't a surprise because he is just a warrior. Blair is a beast at getting any kind of a rebound. The challenge is to keep him on the floor more...keep healthy & out of foul trouble. As you said the A-TO ratio is very good in general for everybody. I have posted these numbers in the past, but you are clearly more tech advanced and can do it in a presentation which is much better than mine. Again, great work...thanks.
