For the game last night, I arrived around 6:15. I like to watch the warm-ups.
I noticed a fresh face, who was dressed out, that I had not seen before. Immediately, I assumed he was the walk-on from Texas. Irving, Texas, I think. Based upon his size, he is a guard.
I watched him for a long time.
Initially, he stood on the side line and about at the mid-court line. He stood there for maybe 10-15 minutes. As the team members ran their drills and passed him, there would be hand slaps. Sometimes, a player would stop and goof around with him.
After awhile, he moved to a position just inside the key. Mostly, he just stood around in the key, but he would shag balls for the players every now and then.
He never took a shot. He never participated in a drill.
When the players retreated to the locker room for the last time, he left with them.
Here is my mystery question as follows: Can anyone explain what is going on with this particular player.
Here is my conjecture. Pure conjecture, I might add.
1. The player is a walk on.
2. He has not been cleared to play by the NCAA.
3. NCAA rules do not permit him to even participate in pregame warm-ups, until he has been cleared as elgible.
