  • T'd up in an exhibition game?!

Who get's T'd up in an exhibition game? And what ref throws a T in an exhibition game? Ok if the foul is flagrant or the coach is really ribbing you, sure you throw the T -- so if that's the case what team would foul like that and what coach would throw bombs during a freaking exhibition game?

The reason it's stupid is: it causes the other team (in this case us) to react which puts our players in jeopardy of being injured. Jeopardize our season in an exhibition game? (Edit: retracted overreaction)

    Dumb.

Props to Coach Potter. He wanted the T, he got it, and he got over it quickly.

I thought he was jobbed, and stood up for his guys. There were 2 calls very close to each other and both went against him. I'd have been mad too.

He wanted his guys to believe they still had a chance to win. I can't fault him at all, and I for one appreciate the way he brought in his team, prepared and aggressive and gave us some good things to work on. He also had only great things to say about WSU and Coach Marshall. He handled himself beautifully as far as I am concerned, and frankly I hope Newman is on the exhibition schedule as long as he's there and before we ever schedule AIA or any of the other traveling fodder.

No, Coach Potter is not my brother.

Agreed. I wish Marshall would light up the referees when the Shocks are getting jobbed. Maybe we wouldn't wind up on the short end of the call stick so often.

Whether it is an exhibition game or a tournament championship, it is the Coach's job to stick up for his team.

Coach Potter is a very competitive person. They did a great job against us and he was getting hosed on a couple of calls.

He didn't drop any "bombs" either.

Ditto on that one. He's a class act, and I think the refs were being a bit touchy towards him personally.

You gotta admire NU's tenacity. They never quit. You could tell they were having some problems handling the physicality of the game--especially by mid way through the second half, but they never stopped giving their best. They should be very successful in their league this year I would suspect.

i loved that he got t'd up in that situation. it was a horrible missed call and any coach in that situation gets a T. shows he wasnt just going thru the motions. he was competing. great example for the kids.

It was a great T. His team did get jobbed. He stood up for them and got his point across. Not only that but it worked out well for Newman.

Garrett missed both of the technical free shots and then the Ref's made a big time make up call when they called the foul on DK's outstanding block which was clearly not a foul.

Coach Potter is top notch all the way.

I have to take this in reverse order, sans last sentence:

Excellent, that is classy. We all agree.

Absolutely. Excellent. We want exhibition teams to play hard, be aggressive, work us out, show us our weaknesses. We all agree.

Excellent, call a time out and pump 'em up, or turn to the bench and fire 'em up. Wouldn't have any problems with that.

Maybe so, not even gonna argue about that. So he should ride the refs a bit and let 'em know about it. So far assuming you are right about the calls, we are all agreeing.

No, no, NO. There is VERY little reason to cross this line in a friendly. INTENTIONALLY getting T'd up causes both teams to react in a generally _non-positive_ physical way. You could see the serious of the fouls elevate after it happened. Heck even our POY took a hard foul right afterward that had the crowd gasping, even if for a brief second.

There ARE reasons to take a T, even in a friendly, but that game was nowhere near that line-you-don't-cross unless you really, really hafta.

Can you split any more hairs. Do you actually think coach Potter or any other coach, player etc...can, in a split second moment, balance the pros & cons of how loud or monstrative to question a call of an official. Do you actually think he had time to deliberate in his mind that this was an exhbition game (friendly). Are you a mind-reader that you can assume he made an intentional effort at getting a T. I also think the players are mature enough not to let a T by their own coach or the opposition get to them in a non-positive & physical way. I hope you call coach Potter to set him straight on his violation of when & how to get a T.

Potter is a good coach and well respected. I don't care what kinda game it is. Him acting like this was "for real" is a high compliment as most coaches don't take exhibitions seriously.

He was in the right, and in this case Kung Wu is in the wrong.

Coach Potter is a exceptional coach, a class act, and a fierce warrior. It tickled my funny bone when he got T-eed up but I was not surprised. Even with my rose-colored black and gold specs on, we mugged his player and there was no call. However, Mr. Kyles made a clean block and was issued a foul. Thus, it was all good.
