  • Will we be ready?

I believe we are a better basketball team than UConn at this point, however we will only have played 2 games before we meet up in Maui. They will have played 4 games.

They will have had more of an opportunity to build in game chemistry, rhythm, and confidence (even if they are games against cupcakes).

With not being able to get a scrimmage game, and playing only two cupcake games ourselves, my only concern for the UConn game is that the Shox are going to be a little rusty. Another disadvantage of not being able to effectively schedule?

The Shox did play a scrimmage....yesterday....

Regardless the Shox are more experienced than UConn. While that doesn't necissarily mean that the Shox are a lock to win, this team still has more experience than alot of UConn's team. They'll be ready.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard anything about it.

As far as experience, i thought the same thing when we played PITT.

To answer your question: YES, we will be ready.

This is our year, our time to make a statement and take our place back on the national stage. UConn is a great team--well coached and of course with ridiculously good athletes, but we can match them and as others have said, we are more experienced.

I hope the team has this mentality when preparing--that they WILL win the game, not that they can.

              Just my opinion of course!

We better be ready. It's only our most important non-conference game of the year.

                ... No really, deuces.

The REASON I think we will be ready is that I have great faith that our coach has thought of everything regarding the mindset of our guys. Our coach is a confident person and that is why he has had the success that he has had. He will have us ready and at least in a position to win. The guys will have to finish up.

The coaching is there, the talent is there the skill is there, and finally the opportunity to succeed is there. The coaches are doing everything they can to put them in the position of success. Ultimately it's going to be up to the guys to execute the game plan and play with some heart and determination.

No excuses. It's time to get it done!

The star watch for UConn includes Kemba Walker, 6-1, Jr. & Alex Oriakhi, 6-9, So...both are McDonalds All-Americans, for whatever it is worth. After these two, all else is up for debate.

Others to watch in the backcourt is 6-5, Fr. Jeremy Lamb (17 points in their exhibition game today vs. Bridgeport); Shabaaz Napier, 6-0 Fr. & 6-4 Sr. Beverly will see time.

At small forward 6-7 So., Jamal Combs-McDaniel & 6-7, Fr. Neils Giffey will see time. Combs-McDaniel was a non-contributer last season, while Giffey, from Germany, hasn't been overly impressive yet.

Up front Oriakhi, 6-9 Fr. Olander & 7-0 Sr Charles Okwandu will get most of the minutes. Although Okwandu hasn't been a scorer in his previous 3 seasons, he did have 12 points/7 reb in the first exhibition game.

Ragland & Williams will be asked to keep Walker in check; Murry will probably be assigned to the talented Fr. Lamb. Our bigs should be able to combine to neutralize Oriakhi & Okwandu.

                      GO SHOCKS!!!

It is only one game, but beating Conn and moving up to play a top rated team is crucial for setting the stage for the whole rest of the season.

                              Two things are certain:

1). We have not yet won the Valley.
2). We have not yet been awarded a birth in the NCAA Tourney.
