  • Preseason All America Announced

Duke's Kyle Singler is the leading vote-getter on The Associated Press preseason All-America team while North Carolina's Harrison Barnes is the first freshman selected since voting began 24 years ago.

    Jacob Pullen KSU

    Jimmer Fredette BYU

    Kyle Singler Duke

    JuJuan Johnson Purdue

    Harrison Barnes UNC

Seriously, I have no doubt Barnes will be super, but that's just stupid. Others are more deserving. The kid has proved nothing against college competition.

Maybe Roy cried to the voters that it wasn't fair he wasn't going to be named.

    Barnes...ridiculous

That was my first thought but after remembering how good John Wall was last year I'll withhold judgment.

"it's an unbelievable accomplishment for a freshman," said Tar Heels coach Roy Williams.

Really?! Pretty "unbelievable" since he hasn't even played a college game. "Accomplishment", umm .... not so much.

I have no problem with a freshman receiving this honor post-season, but pre-season, such an honor should at least go to someone who played the year before.

Wouldn't that just be a post-season award for last year then?

Really aren't preseason awards stupid, in general?

No. The players that received the award post season are gone, along with others. This doesn't always happen, but many times most of those players have graduated or gone pro. There are also players that pundits believe have "max out" or reached their potential as 2nd or 3rd teamers. Others, who may have been underclassmen, started to impress late in the previous season and may have a much higher ceiling (in peoples' opnions).

Are they stupid? Maybe, probably. But it's not much different than preseason team polls. However, it all apart of the college athletics' craze. Enjoy!

OK, so your requirement would just be a late post-season award _for returners_. I mean if they are required to have played last season, and are judged on last season's performance, then how can it not be?

I agree with you that it's silly to give an All American honor to someone that has never played at the college level. What if he breaks his leg on the way to the first game?

I think it's also silly to give an honor to someone for something they might do. But there is precedence for that (thinking of a recent Nobel Peace Prize winner).

On the other hand, if LeBron James had chosen to play college basketball, wouldn't you expect him to have been on that list?

What this all really says is that pre-season picks of any type don't mean much. They are fun for the fans. They do generate discussion. They ultimately determine nothing.

Agree. I'm excited as heck that KSU is pre-season #3 but it means nothing. This kid might blow out his knee in an exhibition game - who knows?

BCSCat - If the Shockers were preseason #3,we would be excited too. However, I would hope I would have enough class not to go onto another's board and keep boasting about it. Enough guy. We get it. Your proud. Now prove you have the right to that ranking. Until then, please go away with your constant crowing.

Guys, BSCat has confirmed that WSU and its fans are the ones that worry her the most. It's the only possible explanation for her continued further presence here. WSU is the school she compares Kitten State to in everything. It all adds up.

Just let her get her WSU fix in and go with it. Just remember it's actually a compliment to our school and fanbase every time she posts.
