  • JT Durley continues to mature

It is no longer necessary to wonder about J.T. Durley's physical fitness to play college basketball. As a junior, he moved past all those old worries about his conditioning and motivation.

Since he's come so far, however, it's nice to point out when he hits another milestone. Earlier this month, Durley ran a mile in 5 minutes, 56 seconds, 16 seconds better than his previous best of 6:12 in August.

"He told me before he ran it that he was going to run under a six-minute mile," Wichita State strength and conditioning coordinator Kerry Rosenboom said. "I told him he will make my year if he did that. He made my year."

If you look at the roster for this year, JT is actually 4 lbs lighter than he was last season - 236 lbs versus 240 lbs.

Something tells me that this will be J.T.'s team this year. I see him being a leader on and off the court. The other seniors will be there too, but J.T. will consider this a personal issue with him this year.

Hatch will be there too, could you want a tougher player than what Hatch is? I love to watch him scramble for balls, keeping hitting the boards for rebounds, and to put up that sweet left handed 3 shot from the wing.

Ellis needs to come into his own this year. His potential is there, and this year he needs to prove it with great defense, and to start hitting those jumpers.

This is a team with a mission this year - to get back to the Big Dance, whatever it takes, by hook or crook, they have a mission to complete!!!

:wsu_posters: and don't stop till you finish like you want to!!!

Snap, you hit it on the head with Durley. It's his team if he wants it. He has been in the program now for 5 years. He has had his ups and downs with the coaches, fans & media. Last year, as the recent article talks about, he appeared to have jumped the major hurdles. His ceiling is what he wants it to be. His outgoing personality is conducive to being a leader. Let's hope he connects the dots.

Hatch is also right on. Substitute Blair for Ellis. Blair's ability to produce on the floor, plus his energetic personality, will put him on the radar as a go-to, leader type.

Murry might be the best candidate to carry the team on his back. He will have the ball in his hands as much as anybody. He can create his own shot. He just needs to have the ball fall his way more times than not.

        Murry

With Ben Smith backing up Hatch this year, it seems likely that Murry will less at the 3 position and will thus be able to concentrate more at the 2, shooting guard spot. This could work out to his advantage as well.
