This may not be a popular prediction among SN posters, but I have sCUm #2 over MSU. McDermott is a proven coach in the Valley. With a fresh coaching perspective, no Pee-you Allen bringing the team attitude down, a POY candidate, experienced returners and a couple of good newcomers (Echenique, McDermott), it will be tough not to look at them as right behind the Shockers. I hope this will be the case...it will help in solidifying sCUm as a true rival...both parties are relevant. :wsu_posters:

Not an unreasonable prediction if Echenique lives up to the hype. The question will be whether CU can find someone other than Wragge who can make a basket outside of 10'.

Between Dunham, Sonnen, Moran and Ahelegbe as a guard unit, and Jake Koch doing a smaller, but more mobile, Nick Collison impression, UNI is not to be overlooked. MSU is the real deal. Creighton will rebound. Bradley is experienced and athletic. We know that WSU has the way- do they have the will?

In spite of what Jay Bilas says (and I am considering putting him on permanent "mute"), the MVC will be very tough and balls out this year. :-x

Jake Koch = Nick Collison? Easy baby.....

I think Koch is really, REALLY good but let's not get carried away. And Sonnen, Dunham and Moran do NOTHING for me, I've got chunks of guys like that in my stool. Much of their success stems from Lurch, Koch Sr. and Farokmadenjiad being on the court at the same time.

MSU will be decent, but they still have paint shortcomings. It is CU and BU that scare me. UNI and MSU are solid. I don't think DU & ISUB+R can sustain success for a whole season, but in short periods they will be a handful...you hope not to catch them when they are hot. UE and SIU should be even less successful.

What did you have for lunch...three panthers that kind of size in your stool could really be troublesome for the average guy.

I said Jake Koch does an impression of a smaller Nick Collison, and a good one at that, WuDrWu. 'No need to twist it. I didn't say he would be an All-American or play in the NBA, even as a role player. Could he be MVC POY one day, like his brother? It's possible.

And after seeing what Sonnen, Dunham, and Moran did to WSU in the MVC title game, the best you can do is call them turds, hunh? Sonnen, Dunham, Moran and Ahelegbe (and freshman Koch), all returning, ran circles around KU, while Egg-head was sucking an oxygen machine on the sidelines (second half). Don't count out UNI or: The Valley is really good this year.

We will see, they lost 3 very very important pieces. Sure they had solid backups but now they will start and who plays behind them?

4th place is my guess, and that's more to do with the valley lack of depth than anything.

The UNI fan site should change it's name to PantherPoop.com. LSU has TigerDroppings.com so why not?

PantherPoop.com - Get the Poop on your Panthers!

New site graphics could be difficult to come by unless they have contacts at a local zoos.

Well, the media picked UNI third, preseason, with (3) first place votes, more than any team except for Wichita State, Ta Town. Maybe the Valley lacks more depth than even you think it does? Maybe not. Hopefully, Wichita State won't get drubbed at Drake again.. or embarrassed at Evansville.

Of course, I'll pick the Shockers to win the Valley, and it has much more to do with just depth of talent (which is what UNI parlayed on last year). I don't think ANYBODY, players, coaches, ANYBODY, associated with the program has more of a red ass over losing the post-season tourney than Gregg Marsgall does. :-x I think he will convey that feeling into the team. :) He is an excellent coach like that. :-x

                          MVC top-4:

                          1. WSU
                          2. MSU
                          3. UNI
                          4. sCUm

Who's non-con will properly prepare for the conference grind?

                          BASED ON 2009-10 RPI:

                          WSU (cupcakes): Chicago St. (346); Alabama A&M (331); UMKC (282); Nichols St. (279); Texas Southern (228); @LSU (223)...we all know won't be a cupcake.

                          Helpful to the cause: @San Diego St. (25); U-Conn (66); Tulsa (69).

Potential matchups: Kentucky (3); Michigan St. (18); Washington (32); Oklahoma (128)

MSU (cupcakes): Central Ark (321); Ark L-R (302); Ark St (199).

Helpful to the cause: Tennessee (9); Oklahoma St (38); Tulsa (69); St. Louis (80); ORU (129).

Potential matchups: Villinova (16); Wake Forest (31)

                          UNI (cupcakes): North Dakota (340); SIU-Edwardsville (322); S. Carolina St (224); Indiana (220), not a cupcake; Iowa (208); TCU (194); Coe (???).

Helpful to the cause: Syracuse (6); New Mexico (13); Morhead St. (91); Colorado (123); UW-Milwaukee (124); Iowa St (125)

                          sCUm cupcakes: Idaho St (308); Kennesaw St (281) W. Illinois (278); Alabama St (271); Samford (260); Samford (260); Louisina -Laf (246); N. Arizona (206); St. Joe (184).

Helpful to the cause: BYU (26).

Could be helpful, but probably not: Northwestern (114); Iowa St (125); Nebraska (150).

I am also curious how Echenique will pan out. He certainly had nice stats last year but it was restricted to seven games, against less then stellar competition, and all but two games were at home. In Rutger's toughest early season opponent (Florida on a nuetral court) he was held to only 2 rebounds.

                              vs Marist ( 1-28 ) - 13 points and 10 rebounds
                              vs Drexel ( 16-15 ) - 16 points and 13 rebounds
                              vs Vermont ( 25 - 10 ) - 9 points and 5 rebounds
                              vs Massachusetts ( 12 - 20 ) - 10 points and 4 rebounds
                              vs Florida ( 21 - 13 ) - 0 points and 2 rebounds
                              vs Princeton ( 22 - 9 ) - 21 points and 11 rebounds
                              vs Colgate ( 10 - 19 ) - 19 points and 8 rebounds

Looks like the Shox had four 2nd place and two 3rd place votes (or alternatively, five 2nd and one 4th)
