  • Bracket Busters

I know that there's been some complaining about our schedule but how about Butler coming to Intrust Bank Arena for Bracketbusters?

I would prefer to play them at the Chuck but depending on how the season pans out their may be greater demand than 11,000.

That would certainly strengthen our schedule.

Butler isn't in the Bracket Busters this year and I doubt we'd have 2 games at IBA. Plus they've always had the BB games as a season ticket and I'm not sure they'd be able to just switch it over like that. Not to mention I would be very upset if both of our good non-con home games are at IBA.

Sadly, Utah State looks at first glance to be the best road option in the bracket buster. Feel free to correct me if I've overlooked anyone.

As I said in another thread, several Colonial road teams are quality.

VCU is the most notable, but Northeastern was very good last year, and George Mason is supposed to be good this season.

I don't know if VCU will be better than Utah State or not, but they always have a strong RPI and the chance that they will fall off the map for the following year's game is much lower than some schools because they have a consistent program.

I've mentioned Wofford and Loyloa-Marymount before.

Because a team that has built a reputation doesn't have to lower themselves.

Sorry the bracket busters isn't something good to be associated with. I wish WSU would get to that point.

Cleveland State always seems to feel good about themselves. At 12-0 I guess you can. They eased off on their scheduling this year but do have road wins over Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Sam Houston State and home victories include Iona, Kent State and LA-Lafayette.

It will be interesting how they do at West Virginia. Their sports writer believes WSU, Old Dominion and Saint Mary's are the logical Bracket Buster opponents for them. It's early but at this point you sure can't rule that out.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong with this, but once the home teams/away teams were first established, doesn't the groupings stay the same way each year? In other words, if you were originally put in the same half group as ODU and St. Mary's, you'd never play them.

Sounds like a pretty solid resume, and current RPI rating of 21.

Makes you wonder if we had won last year at Utah State, whether the selection committee would have considered us a little more to make the dance.

The home/away teams can vary year by year. We've hosted BB back-to-back before. In 2006, we hosted George Mason. In 2007, we hosted Appalachian State. I know Creighton used to get A LOT of home games for some reason. I do believe a few Valley teams have had back-to-back road games before.

                            So it can change..

If we won at Utah State, we would have been likely in the NCAA's as an at-large and Utah State would have been in the NIT. Even the damage inflicted at Evansville would have been repaired a long ways with a win in Logan.

I'm not so razzed on Cleveland State's schedule. Lots of patsies on there. They haven't really been tested yet. I think we could have gone 12-0 with that schedule. Let's see what they do at West Virginia.
