  • Mid Majority 100

If there was a post on this previously I apologize, let me know and I will delete.

The Mid Majority has done a ranking of 263 teams that fit their definition of mid majority (basically not in a BCS conference) and then sorted them by their histories using criteria chosen by their readers. They also did this for conferences. The results are posted here: http://midmajority.com/tmm100

Using their criteria the MVC is the third ranked conference behind the Atlantic Conference and Conference USA. In counting down the top 100 Drake is # 39 and Missouri State is #21. The remaining top 20 are yet to be announced. So far neither WSU, SIU, Creighton or UNI have been mentioned. The list is kind of an interesting read.

I failed to grasp redline upset. Any help understanding this would be appreciated.

That's where WSU makes a lot of hay. As I read it, when one of the top 8 conferences plays and of the "mid major" (they define this on a money scale for the most part) conferences, the top 8 win at a 83-87% clip on average.

Any win against one of those teams qualifies as a red line upset.

As I read it, beating Wyoming is a red line upset. We have a fair number of red line upsets, and in fact they are by far and away the main reason I came up with a count of 99.

It was a rough count I did a month or so ago in the middle of the night when I was sick, so I make no claims of accuracy.

They're at 79 with MSU at #21. I am guessing that every spot will average a couple of points differential now.....I thought the Valley might have half of the top 10. That might be too much, but since we've seen MSU, Illinois State and Drake so far (Evansville and Indiana State are out) that leaves 5 in the top 20 as SIU, CU, UNI, BU and WSU are all going to be seen. I am guessing we'll be around 10.

If you have time and are bored and want to better understand the whole redline upset you should read his essays. There is one that specifically describes it. They are kind of long, but I think he is a pretty entertaining writer. I think its cool how he just writes about mid majors and he loves the Valley.

Creighton is 20th, the webpage is a day behind his twitter where he announced Creighton today.

Is this based off the program's entire history or a certain time period?..

George mason in at number 16 with 90 pts. Heck, I think 33 of those points came from their final four run (not sure how many redlines they had I think 2 maybe 3) . So maybe 37 pts.

I was hoping we'd make top 10 but I doubt it now. We're going to be around 99 points, so I expect we're up anytime.

I just realized that Bradley has to be ahead of us.....and SIU. I wonder if they'll be ahead of UNI?

It's hard to believe that Bradley would be ahead of SIU in this thing.

But then again, those runs in the CIT and CBI in addition to those tourneys adding win totals to push them over the 20-win threshold really does make a difference..
