Personally, I'd like to see Ragland, Williams, Murry, Durley and Stutz and I think that is most likely.

But I wouldn't mind seeing Ragland, Murry, Blair, Durley and Stutz.
I don't see Hatch not starting.

My guess is Ragland, Murry, Hatch, Durley, and Stutz. Blair being first off the bench.

As for the 3 point shooting:

Durley made his. Stutz and Hatch looked as if there's was golden, but it wasn't. Ragland missed his attempt. I don't know if anyone else attempted a 3, but Blair drained one a step inside the top of the arc.

The 3 point contest featured Hatch, Williams, and Ragland. They shot 25 balls, 5 from each position on the court, with no time limit. Williams and Hatch each hit 9 of 25. Ragland hit 11 of 25 and moved on to the finally against the Women's team. He hit 15 of 25 on his second go around including 8 in a row. There was a 5 shot over time due to a tie in the finals. Joe missed his first 2, made the next 2, but the lady Shocker made her first 4 and it was over. His shot looked sweet, but it was an ungaurded set-shot with a slow release. Obviously the kid can shoot (45% + in juco last year) but I'm not sure how easily he will come open with that slow release. Hopefully his release is quicker on the jump shot.

My comment was geared to more of which of my wants was more likely, I wasn't very clear.

I agree with TMH that is 5 is by far the most likely.

With the size and athleticism we have up and down the roster, Blair or Ellis could certainly play SF against maybe a UConn team. UConn always seems to feature a floor rotation that has three players 6-8 and up on the court at all times.

We need to shoot it really well from the PG, SG spot if we ever do that. Here's my BCS buster starting five and second unit:

          Rags, Murry, Blair, Durley, Stutz

          Williams, Kyles, Smith, Ellis, EO

          Just so many GREAT options!!!

A lot of fans often say that it is really not that important who starts. That may be more true of this team than most. Maybe that is just a cop-out because I find it very difficult to evaluate such a thing on a 12 minute Shocker Madness scrimmage. These very early season introductory events have a history of throwing us curve balls. Last year Richardson looked great and ends up redshirting. A few years ago I remember Wendell Preadom hitting several treys and everyone thought he had found his game.

That said Gabe and Garrett looked great. The athleticism and bodies looked great and we didn't even get to see DK take of his warm-ups.

Our opponent and the matchups we face may dictate who we start at various times. But whoever starts/plays better be ready to bust their arse or they will be finding it resting comfortably on the sidelines.

I asked one of the guys at the Cancer Walk who would be in the dunk contest and they said there would be no contest. I did not press the issue. Now that I think about it I'm not sure I saw DK at the Cancer Walk. I'm wondering if this was a mandatory team event that DK bugged out on. It is possible that he was there and I just did not see him. Aargh was taking quite a few pictures. Maybe he can say whether or not he saw DK at the event.

Regarding David Kyles the following was HCGM's comment in today's Eagle write-up:

"I wanted to send a little message to him," Marshall said. "David needs a lot of messages. He needs e-mail, voicemail, text. He actually was dying to participate tonight. He would love to be out here and doing this. He needs to take care of all the rest of the things that are important to me off the court."

Sure hope this talented young man finally gets the message. I think he probably will.

I'll pick up that gauntlet. There was nothing going on last night, or any of these really, that if I wasn't a diehard fan I would be interested in watching. If they want to make this an event, then the production has to go way up. DJ's, bands, celebrities, et al. Then you have to market the hell out of it. Advertising, group promotions, pr plants. If they're not going to make a full-blown spectacle out of this deal I think they should just have an open practice. The diehards would get more out of it and there wouldn't be any expectation for entertainment.

As for Kyles, I'm a big believer in situational leadership. Just because David still requires a a firm hand doesn't mean he can't be succesful. I'll stipulate that it's hard to improve on that marginal difference between good and great when you're focusing on getting the basics down.

I'll add that he got bencher for a non-legal issue. It's good that we have such great kids.

The fans at this event are the diehards and I doubt that adding a whole lot of window dressing and marketing would make a lot of difference in the turn out, especially coming so close on the heels of RNR which they market pretty heavily.

Of course, the big difference is that RNR raises big bucks. Shocker Madness does not. If you had 4,000 season tickets to sell then maybe you go for it. I did hear one radio spot on the event on 103.7 as I was driving over to the participate in the Cancer Walk. So they spent a small amount on marketing but not a lot.

Personally, I can do without a lot of the fluff. I hated it a few years ago when the tried to do a big fancy player intro with Hitman Greg Williams. Of course execution has a lot to do with that. The routines by the dance team and cheerleaders were OK and weren't that time consuming or intrusive.

I did enjoy WuShock's surfing exhibition.

Of course, I had been there since 3:00 pm and going to 8:30 was plenty for me. So maybe I don't have the best perspective on this.

Actually that's a good perspective. I think you'd fall firmly in the open practice camp. I think I would too.

My ideal event would be a one hour practice or "drill" session followed by a 20 minute scrimmage.

Many schools use this type of an event as a recruiting tool to let prospective players see the atmosphere they can expect. Ours is obviously not that. We pull the K State Men's basketball philosophy, circa 2000, where we put the volleyball game before it in hopes that people will attend both events. K State men's basketball had to do the same thing back then, except they put the Women's game before the men's. I would love to see this be a bigger event. I think our teams deserve it. But frankly, if I was a recruit coming to OUR event, I would be less than impressed.

Agreed, but remember that part of themarketing mix is product. There's no point hyping the thing six ways from Sunday if the product on the floor is what we saw last night.

Yes, I think last night was kind of a dud. I like the open practice idea also.

I don't know how much an event like this plays into recruiting but if it does have an impact they should make it an event.

I thought it was encouraging that EO made a comment about how many people were there and how loud it was? He had better prepare himself for the real deal because the atmosphere last night was lame.
