3. Can the Aces get out of the bottom of the MVC?

Evansville finished last in 2008 and 2010 and ninth in 2004, 2005 and 2007. Its best finish in that time is a tie for 5th in 2009 (with an 8-10 record). The Aces appear locked in as one of the Valley’s have-nots. The 2011 team returns four starters and three top reserves and built some momentum with wins over Northern Iowa, Wichita State and at Drake last in 2010. Simmons coached the Aces to a 17-14 record in 2009 relying heavily on three seniors. This team isn’t as experienced, so expecting a move into the upper half seems like a stretch.

Three Questions for Drake


1. Can the Bulldogs play defense?

VanDeest can block shots. Beyond that, the Bulldogs give up a lot of open shots in their matchup zone defense. They’re not big or particularly quick – which is why they ranked 10th in shooting defense (46 percent) and ninth in three-point defense (36.5). They also don’t rebound (last in rebound margin at minus-6.6), so they give up a lot of follow shots. The matchup zone can cause problems, but smart, experienced teams can shoot their way to victory.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but I know the team can't have practice until the day before Shocker Madness.

right now they are doing individuals and tons of weight training and conditioning.

Shocker Madness is Saturday, Oct. 16 The events of the day include:

3 PM - WSU Shocker Cancer Walk
5 PM - Volleyball vs. Evansville
7 (?? - after VB) is "Shocker Madness" which is an open scrimmage with both the men's and women's teams.
