Right, Speed. You mean to tell me, Dicky V and Jay Bilas, that a team that won 25 games and finished second in the MVC is supposed to be an 40 to 55 ranked also-ran for NCAA tournament inclusion?... i.e. at-large chances are slim from the get go? That's not good press at all. :-x

When a school struggles to get it's name recognized on a national level, getting it mentioned in national media in a positive way is the start of building a "brand name" for the school.
WSU needs to become a "brand name". Gonzaga has made it. Butler has made it. It's really hard to get that "brand name" established for schools not in BCS conferences.
It generally starts with baby steps and grows from there. It's really rare for a non-BCS school to start getting recognized by suddenly appearing in the top 10 of pre-season polls. Pre-season polls are based a lot on the "brand name" (name on the uniform). The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Aargh: 'Preseason polls are based a lot on the "brand name" (name on the uniform).'
One could also argue that this is also true when it comes to the selection process and seeding for the tournament. In the case of many of the BCS schools, often times, it is hype over substance.
While, in the case of schools like Wichita State, it is substance over hype that is perused in determining their selection.
Definitely, having a "brand-name" helps immensely.

Gottlieb said was that we had experience, depth and TALENT and we are a potential Sweet 16 team (this year's Northern Iowa). I'll gladly take that at this point.
We win the Maui Tournament and the national love will start flowing. We lay an egg in Maui and even Gottlieb's positive comments will quickly fade into oblivion.

Come on DJA, this is the WSU board, we can lie about CU and dismiss them as a has-been here.
The only reason Altman went to Oregon is because he knew WSU was going to have his lunch at Qwest this year and he couldn't accept that, so he did the only thing he could to avoid it. He tooka worse coaching job.The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
