The problem is that it is not a poor schedule. We have some really good competition, the problem is that our bad opponents are so bad that it threatens to negate the really good schools on the schedule.

The trick that the major conferences have perfected is monopolizing games against the mediocre cupcake teams by being able to offer better buyouts and more national publicity. This is where rpi is a lie. Just because you beat a school that is #200 in the rpi instead of #300 does not mean that the #200 school was any challenge to you or that it made your schedule harder, but you get a big rpi boost. This is why competition for buy out games is so intense. The key is finding a team that has no chance to beat you, but won't hurt your rpi.

From what I got from a pretty high source is that the Tulsa game is for sure at IBA.

pretty disapointed to spend so much money for season tickets and have to sit thru that non conference schedule. plus not to mention tulsa will probably be at IBA and i will have to pay even more money for it.

If we play well enough hopefully this year we'll get a Bracket Buster opponent at home that will be something to get excited about. That would also help our RPI.

While I'm disappointed with the 300+ rpi teams, I can't say that I'm surprised. It is what it is. They know what they need to do, and now they just need to do it. Win baby.

This is a truly disappointing schedule. LSU was scheduled under Mark I am pretty sure. San Diego State is the MVC MWC challenge. So other than Tulsa what team did he schedule that has a RPI under 225? That is not even mentioning that 2 of them are in the mid 300's. Very Very poor.

Part of it is bad timing:

                  2008-09 2009-10 Team
                  323 - 227 Texas Southern
                  309 - 281 UMKC
                  234 - 345 Chicago St
                  34 - 18 SD St.
                  334 - 332 Alabama A&M
                  37 - 223 LSU
                  53 - 68 Tulsa
                  6 - 28 Michigan St
                  8 - 64 UConn
                  5 - 124 Oklahoma
                  79 - 2 Kentucky
                  114 - 127 Virginia
                  14 - 41 Washington

                  Kind of a crapshoot, really.

Tulsa IBA game is included in the season ticket package. But I pretty much agree with your point. CKA games in the non-con are absolutely horrendous. I don't think the continual price hike for season tickets has been justified.

Not sure I understand the rationale for scheduling such a weak OoC home schedule. I don't buy into the argument that no one of decent to strong RPI will play in Wichita. This begs the question to schedule 1:2 against tough competition and bring some good teams to Koch or IBA.

We waited a long time for this schedule and frankly speaking the home OoC leaves a lot to be desired.

Even beating UCONN is no guarantee to an at-large if we play well. Look what happened with VaTech losing to James Madison. Probably ended Boise's title hopes. There is little room for error on our part and little room for our opponents. Poop!

Either we were strung along by a couple of "better" cupcakes for a while, only to have them jilt us for a better payout at the last minute, or the person in charge of assembling this sucker is incompetent and/or lazy. I hope for the former, but it's still no excuse.

You just can not come out with a schedule like this in one of our most hyped seasons in the last 25 years. If anything, this was the year to take a chance with an additional 1 and done road contest at a North Carolina, etc.

Oh well. I guess we'll just have to win them all.

Why do you think you know who would or would not play us? Why would you assume that the coaches are turning down quality teams that are willing to play in Wichita? Wouldn't the amount of time it took to release the schedule suggest that the coaches didn't see these cupcakes as their first choice and were trying to hold out for better competition?
