I saw on the UNI forums that the board did accept their proposal. I don't know the details, though.

I must assume you are making significant financial contributions to the basketball program then.

          Not any more.

Once the renovation was complete and the fan loyalty was taken out of the equation I dropped my Guardian Level SASO membership and four tickets and vowed to never step foot into Koch arena.

I had one lapse a couple of years ago only to see the Shox lose to Drake.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

A thought just occurred to me. If this happens another university could acquire their entire staff, probably _relatively_ inexpensively, and get their own program launched with a solid staff and relatively few transition head-aches.

This sounds like an opportunity for a D1 school without football, who would like to have success right from the start.

Yesterday the Board of Regents unanimously approved UNI's proposal for funding going forward, so yes, our D-1 athletic programs are safe at UNI.

I think this whole process has been about formalizing the difference in how athletics are financed at UNI vs. Iowa/Iowa State. There are only 14 athletic programs in the country completely self suficient. Iowa is one, and Iowa State will join them next year. UNI compares favorably with it's peer schools and even some BCS schools.

And no, you can't have our entire coaching staff. :D

I'm also pretty sure the overall head-to-head is very close, with UNI with a slight advantage. But overall and recently during UNI's glory run, we have held decent.

I wouldn't say they have "owned" us or anything.
                  Held our own?

We are talking about Northern Iowa, not North Carolina or some other traditional powerhouse.

                  It's Nothern Freeking Iowa guys!

Look what they spend on their program, look at what they pay their coach we ought to be killing them every time the Shox step on the floor against them.

I definitely agree that holding our own to them shouldn't be the standard, but I'm just saying that considering we just got over a mini-slump after the Sweet 16 year and UNI has endured the best two years of their program's existence, we have held our own in those comparisons. Do our greatest years compare to their greatest years? Of course not.

I don't know what the moose is smoking, but there is only one sport turning a hefty profit and that is men's BB. It is the golden goose that needs to be carefully nurtured to keep it healthy so all other sports can continue to either flourish, or do what is necessary to allow them to flourish. For example, volleyball is great, but the tickets are practically free, so there is no profit there. Women's BB needs to turn the corner and establish a fan base of several thousand fans. That would really help the entire program. Hopefully that will begin to take focus this year.
