  • Another loss for MSU?

It's being said on the Missouri St. board that Michael Porter is transferring to SEMO.

They missed him from a quality depth standpoint last year and I believe he was expected to be a contributor this season.

That's two top reserves down for the Bears. Can they still be considered a pre-season favorite for #2?

If he is going to SEMO from Mo State, it makes you wonder how good he is to begin with.

Sounds like he is not even sure if he can continue his basketball career due to the injury sustained in the car accident. Add the fact that he has young son and you can understand his desire to get closer to his home support system.

Not sure how good he was, but it appears the injury probably diminished those abilities significantly.

I wish the young man good luck.

Sometimes athletes make decisions that give aspects of their lives other than sports the most significance.

They still have Weems, Mallet and Ricks. I like those three.

I agree that those three will keep them in the top half, but you have to wonder if the blow to the depth will cost them a few games. With as physical as the Valley is, if you don't have depth you're bound to run out of gas.

I didn't get to see Porter play last year but everyone down here thought he would be a contributor this season. His injury was pretty bad but alot of the reason he is transfering to SEMO is because he has a child and needs help from his family to raise it. He is originally from SE Missouri.

MSU will be about 7 deep with veterans. The balance will be freshmen. Nathan Scheer is the only freshman that appears ready to contribute.

Weems is one of the top players in the league. As long as they have him they will still be tough.

Reminds me when Luke Babbitt from Nevada ran out of gas and we still got smoked at home. :(

This news is basically going from a partial loss to a permanent loss. We knew he was going to be out until December or later and, based on the article, he might have contributed very little to Mo St's season anyway due to the injury.

Wish Michael and his family the best in the future.

I would add Leonard to that conversation considering he is our 2nd leading scorer. Our starting 5 (Ricks, Leonard, Mallett, Weems and Creekmore) is pretty strong and we still have veterans Patterson and Rhine on the front line coming off the bench. We just need a little contribution from 2-3 of the 4 frosh and we should be fine...Scheer is very good and ready to play 20+ IMO.

Yup and your coach is super solid -- those guys seem to get more out of younger players than the other coaches. MSU is going to have some strong Basket Fu.
